Hubby is being totally unsupportive

Recommended Posts

He doesn't seem to understand that this journey is super hard for me. It's only been a couple of weeks and even though I don't talk about missing (junk) food that much, I do. He just eats what he wants when he wants right in my face. I'm so frustrated! Grrrrrrrrrr......

I know that has got to be so hard, but you have to realize that you can't change his eating habits, or anyone elses. Remember you did this for you, not to change him, but to change your habits. As long as he is not rubbing it in your face saying look what I can eat you have to find a way to deal with it.

I couldn't agree more Deb. Adding to that when I first had the op friends & family kept apologizing for eating yummy foods in front of me. The thing is it never bothered me & it still doesn't.

I went from envy of junk food eaters to disgust watching them stuff their pig faces, (that's the way I felt, not saying they WERE pigs). Things change as you lose the weight and reap the benefits. Your love for the new you replaces your love for mass quantities of belt strainers.

Now when I watch volumes of chips and donuts go down necks I am quite indifferent. I have accepted the fact that I am an alien to the majority of my society.

He doesn't understand this journey is hard

labellaskorpio

this journey is hard enough without getting support from spouse or S/O :(

you've "discussed" your concerns/asking him not to eat in front of you

maybe in a little time he "might" become more considerate

for now, i don't think i'd hold my breath

its not gonna be easy, but you must get past seeing him or anyone eat in front of you :(

you are very early post op - so its more understandable that seeing others eat is upsetting

truth is kiddo - you are gonna have to get used to seeing others eat

you'll be at work, or family occassions et al

i know there are others here that are lacking support - I feel bad for you and "them" :(

it would be nice, but we can't tell people not to eat in front of us :o

not gonna happen!!!

take care and good luck

I tell them, "I hope you choke"

I laugh it off. I'm lucky it doesn't bother me and I don't really notice what others eat. Try to remember how healthy you're becoming and too bad for him... But maybe he will want to become healthier by seeing what it does for you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
