1 week post op-pain with every bite...

Recommended Posts

So, with every bite of food or sip of Water I get this pressure like pain when air is trying to to get out while I'm trying to get something in. What is this all about and will it stop?

About 2 weeks in it slows down! Try warm liquids. That seems to help. All normal. Don't worry ...

I was prescribed heart burn meds, and it did help, but yes warm liquids helped a lot too.

Yes, this will soon pass, eat slow, don't talk while eating or chewing, because air can enter at least thats what my doctor told me because I had the same issues. Take the ant\acid pills as well. What helps me is I take one bite then allow for that to digest then the next bite etc. Im 4 months post op and still having a few issues with this , nothing like when I first had the surgery though

OK, thanks for your insight. I was just hoping it wasn't something wrong with the way I was sewn up or something. I'll just wait for it to pass and eat SLOWER!!! The hardest the thing to do.

Applesauce, scrambled egg, refried Beans, guacamole, cottage cheese, pureed chicken w/ gravy...oh, and Protein Drinks. This is getting very boring though. I have a problem eating pureed meat. If it weren't for the Protein drinks, I would never get enough protein.

I am 3 weeks post op and just started puréed (refried Beans, egg, etc) and having a bit of difficulty getting them down. I wasn't allowed that type of food at 1 week post op. your sleeve is still healing so you might wanna try and stick with Protein Shakes and liquids until the swelling goes down.

I am just starting on pureed and I tried scrambled eggs with some refried Beans and guacamole this morning.... I could only take a few very small bites and it feels like a lump in my stomach. I will be finishing the day with more liquids. It sure did taste good though :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
