I was sleeved on the 2nd as, pretty much of pain meds except when I sneeze, that hurts a lot and sometime need pain meds to relieve it, and bed time, can't find a comfortable non painful way to sleep. Do you have that problem? I would like to do away with pain meds completely, but bedtime is such a chore can't seem to do it. My post op is the 21st. Also gonna weigh layer today to see what my 1 week loss has been

That was the hardest part after getting my gallbladder out, was finding a comfortable way to sleep. I'm sure it'll be the same way with my sleeve!

OK all May sleevers. I have yet to have surgery (14 days). What would you have done differently? Is there any words of wisdom for us yet to come. Did you take anything special to the hospital that you want to share? Every surgeon is different but there is enough the same. I read everyone's post and it is good to hear everyone seems to be doing well that posts. (except for the usual pain, nauseous, tired at home, sleep issues). I am going back to work 6 days after surgery how long did you wait?

I was sleeved on Monday and still can not lie flat. I slept on the couch last night and may try the bed propped up tonight. I had no pre op diet and was absolutely fine. They said i was a model patient. I was up and walking within a few hours and the pain was tolerable but the pump made me very itchy. The only thing is I havent had a bowl movement since like Saturday and I am thinking of taking something. I am not eating anything except drinking my fluids at this point so there is not so much inside me to come out however, I don;t want to wait to long. Hope everyone is doing well and those yet to come you will do great. It really hasn't been bad at all!

To answer the question about sleeping. Yes it is uncomfortable to sleep for the first couple of nights because of the drainage bag but then you will find it easier. It's really trying to turn over because you don't realize how many stomach muscles you use to do that!

I had my sleeve done May 7. I'm still in hospital as my veins collapsed and I needed to get a picc line in to have a drip in for longer to keep my fluids up. Ill be going home Saturday (fingers crossed)!

Key things to remember when you do have surgery is try to get up out of bed the next day. Walk for a couple of mins at a time. Walking really helps with the recovery and you feel better too!

Good luck to all May sleevers pre and post op!

Don't worry about the bowl movement, my nurse called me after 3 days at home, Monday, and asked me about that, told her I had just poured a dose of milk of magnesia and about to drink it when she called, she said don't. She said remember I was on clear liquid diet before surgery and full liquid diet now, she said add Fiber like metamucil or benefiber once a day and then if no bowel movement in 4-5 days I can try milk of magnesia. So surgery Thursday, home Friday, Monday added metamucil bowl movement that night, but if I didn't have till tomorrow, Friday, before I need milk of magnesia. Just talked to nurse again today to clarify some eating issues.

Doctor Lopez and his team is great. So far so good. My coordinator Janese has been right there a phone call away. No pain but a lot of being sick to my stomach.

I just stepped on the scale...a new morning routine for me. Is it really possible I lost 3lbs on my first day of the PRE-op diet?

Very likely and nice incentive to stick with it. Probably won't see that drop every day but ya never know!

Just do exactly has your surgeon has recommended for you. Everyone is different, and will react to the anesthesia differently.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
