Hello everyone!

I am new here, and thought I would share my journey so far!

I watched my brother-in-law go through the Gastric Sleeve Surgery and process, and decided this is something I wanted to do for myself. I have always been overweight, and I have finally had enough! I am ready for a change:)

I started the whole process on 1/19/13, and my surgery date is finally scheduled for 4/18/13! I started my liquid diet on 4/3/13, two days ago, and I've already lost 5.5lbs! 12 days to go! It's not as bad as I thought it would be! Yes I get hungry and light-headed once and a while, but it doesn't last long. I'm not just completely miserable, which I thought I would be!

I am getting very anxious for surgery! My family has been a HUGE support for me through all of this, and I couldn't do it without them!

It's nice to meet you all, and I am happy I found a place to talk to people that know what I'm going through!

Best of luck to you. My surgery is set for April 16. I agree taht the liquid diet has not been quite as bad as I thought it would be. My baby sister was sleeved in January - she did not have much trouble after the surgery and has been doing great! She's an inspiration to me.

Well I was sleeved on Tuesday and I must say it has not been too bad. The hospital did a great job of controlling pain. I just mostly slept while at the hospital except when I was walking. I was home Wednesday by 1pm. Still pretty tired so I took it easy. Working on my fluids. Ate a small portion of Greek yogurt this morning. Added a little Protein Powder in it and took tiny bites. Showered this morning to so overall I think everything is going good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
