HELP! Can't get in enough protein! Arrrgghh!

Recommended Posts

Today marks exactly two weeks since I became sleeved. But, I seemed to already become 'stalled' in my weightloss. I have only loss about 25 pounds since I started my two week presurgery liquid diet to today. Not sure if this is normal - but it certainly is frustrating! Guess I was expecting more at this time since I am basically still on a liquid diet. I have however, been having a problem getting down enough Protein. I have tried various types - but not found one that I could use regularly to get all that I need on a daily basis to increase weightloss. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions for getting in enough protein? What liquid supplements do you recommed that are palatable? Tried 'Whey New', not a fan. 'Premier Protein' is not bad. Please share your suggestions. Thank you! :)

I developed an intolerance for my Protein Drink at about three weeks out. Not coincidentally, about the same time I stalled for four/five endless weeks! That said, the solution for me was to use milk as the mix for the Protein Powder. Not sure what about the milk made it sit easier on my belly but it did. Of course, if you were to try that, milk would need to be an OK on your nutrition plan since you're so newly post op.

Also, I agree... 25lbs in 2 weeks is great!

My NUT didn't start me on any Protein until yesterday (I'll be two weeks post op on Monday). I'm now doing Baricare shakes that can be mixed with as little as 2 oz of Water and there is 20 gm of protein in each one. I'm not sure where you can get it, I bought it from my Dr's office. You may could check on line. Also the NP told me yesterday at my appt that there are some "protein shots" that you can get from Walmart that are only like 2-3 oz and they have around 17 gm protein in each one. She recommended doing something that you have to mix with a smaller amount of liquid to make it easier to get down as opposed to having to drink 8-16 oz with still such a small stomach capacity.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
