You have to rely on Protein shakes and powders if you can handle them. In the early stages, it's too hard to try to get Protein in with foods.

My nutritionist strictly told me no protien shakes at all. She wants me to eat all my protien. I see everyone using Protein Shakes and just wonder why I can't? Also, does anyone know how much protien we should be consuming?

I have absolutely no idea why you can't, are you sure she didn't advise after you're fully recovered to not use Protein Shakes as a Protein source? I'd have to eat 10.5 ounces of chicken to get my 90g of protein, just physically impossible during liquid and pureed food stages, or 12 ounces of beef. I think the average for protein consumption during the early stages is around 60 grams. Mine are high because I'm wanting to focus half of my journey on muscle mass retention AND weight loss.

I wouldn't sweat it. I did the same thing. After week 3 I hit a stall for about two weeks and the scale is moving again! There's so much going on with your body, it has to have a chance to catch up :)

Ive not hit a stall yet.. I do try and get 60gr of Protein a day.. but im way further out.. im 3.5 months post op and can get that by eating meat or fish or chicken.. but I also eat a Protein Bar too if im not going to eat.. but on the puree.. its hard to do.. without the protein shakes.. even those started to make me sick to my stomach.. thank goodness I advanced.. my labs were great at 3mo..and im down 77lbs.. so I must be doing something right. good luck.. your stall will pass.. just sometimes your body takes a break to adjust to surgery too.. be patient.. good things are coming :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
