Can I sleep on my right side?

Recommended Posts

Just got sleeved three days ago and had my gallbladder removed during the same surgery. So tired of sleeping on my back. Would it do any harm if I slept on my side?

No as long as it is comfortable to you. The nurse helped me onto my right side - where they snatched out my stomach - right after surgery.

Thanks a lot for the message. It's getting really tiring sleeping on my back but I also feel that I'm being paranoid about lots of things. For example, I've been coughing a lot and im trying to get myself to stop coz I'm too scared it would do something to my sleeve. I think if I keep calling my doc about every single issue I'm worried about he'll hate me very soon.

Don't be afraid to call your doctor that's why they get paid the big bucks! My doctor told me to call him if I feel that something just isn't right.

And coughing isn't a bad thing it just helps to clear your lungs along with the thing they should have given you from respiratory therapy to inhale into.

Don't worry about the coughing. They made me cough every hour in order to get my lungs clear and prevent post-surgery pneumonia. If it's hurting your tummy when you cough, brace yourself by holding a pillow to it, and then try for some healthy coughs. The more you can cough, the sooner that'll go away. Congratulations on being on the other side! :)

LynnD

I don't think it would hurt you to sleep on your side

it does hurt physically - but i don't think it does any harm

that being said...........to ease your mind - call doc to ask him if its ok to sleep on your side

he can tell you if he has no concern with you laying on the incisions

all my life, i never could/wanted to sleep on my back - very uncomfortable

PO in the hospital - the beds are so "cozy"/small - that i could only sleep on my back

it was "ok" cuz i was so tired and basically sleeping

when i came home - didn't even attempt to sleep on back

i slept on my right side as usual

my first night home -incisions hurt alot

the next night - the side/sleeping went better :)

next nights continued to improve :)

since you prefer sleeping on side - hope you get the go ahead

it will slightly hurt for a while - but like everthing - early PO - "it" will improve :)

good luck

speedy recovery

sweet dreams :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
