Freaking Out....is this normal 13 days pre-op

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm completely freakimg out. In three days I start my pre-op diet. I keep thinking to myself, "What If I fail, again? Having a surgery to loose weight, what if I'm still fat afterwards??" I'm can't sleep, I feel sick to my stomach....13 days until my surgery...somebody talk me off the ledge.

It's still going to be a struggle. People have lost the weight and gained it back and others haven't lost it at all. It's all up to YOU. You've got to be the one to utilize your sleeve. No one else can do it for you; you've got to do it for yourself

You WILL lose weight after the surgery.. How much, and if you keep it off it up to you, but I can tell you this is the best tool I have had to help me with my struggles. It helps making those big changes we have to make not as hard to do.

YOU CAN DO THIS! The worst part about the pre-surgery phase is the thoughts that go through your mind. (I had to stay out of my head - it was a dangerous place to be!)

Focus on rocking the pre-op diet. The irrational fears are a natural worry based on all previous experience with weight management. You will have these worries post-op too if you experience a weight loss stall.

Bottom line is that you will follow the rules and kick-butt after surgery too.

Wish I had more/better advice, but you CAN do this!

I'm 3 months post op and I sometimes freakout thinking its all gonna go back to the way it was before surgery and I'm gonna gain it all back. Then I step on the scale and bam 3 punds down for the week. You are strong and this surgery is an awesome tool!

I feel ya...I'm also freaked about this being another failure. Praying that you are successful!

I am not sure of the failure rate here but I really think the percentages are quite small. If you try to eat more than you should, your body will inform you in a not too subtle way. Your chances of success are of course not guaranteed but you have an excellent shot. I think that if you have the surgery and end up gaining your weight back it has to be the result of a concerted effort to do so. Yesterday I had a Subway 3" tuna sub and it felt like I just had a porterhouse. You'll be just fine.

I think that we all have at one time or another have had those thoughts.. the what ifs.. I even cried before I went in. then there are those who tell you it wont work.. or those who tell you they know someone who gained the wt back.. for one.. it does work.. and for two.. .its up to you weather you fail or not.. they are giving you the greatest tool ever.. it really is hard to fail.. your stomach is too small... and for sure it will let you know you have over done it or eaten the wrong thing.. the doc and the nut will give you guidelines to live by..and trust me.. if you follow them to the t.. you will not fail.. dont set yourself up for failure.. be positive.. I figure if I can do this.. you can... yes its hard in the beginning .. but any surgery is... just remember in the beginning.. sip sip sip.. walk walk walk..protein Protein protein... and the wt will fall off.. how do I know this.. well I had surgery december 20th.. and im down 77lbs.. thats how I know.. all by following my doctors orders.. my labs were great.. cuz im taking my Vitamins and drinking Water like im suppose to and I dont eat things im not suppose to have.. yes I can have whatever I want right now.. but I choose not to go back to that lifestyle.. Im not going to be that fat girl whom people always say.. "you have a pretty face". Im going to be healthy and happy.. get yourself a fantastic support group going.. and you WILL not fail.. but most of all.. you are the one in control.. best of luck to you on your new journey.. trust me when the weight starts falling off.. you will understand... when those clothes keep getting baggier and baggier.. it will keep you on track.. be positive.. dont let the negative nellies keep you down... you can do this.. my only one regret.. is I didnt do it sooner... :)

Your feelings are normal. I'm 5 months out and was 65 when I had the surgery with gall bladder removal and hiatal hernia repair!! Believe me, it is not easy but... The rules/ guidelines are for your safety!!! Every stage my daughter, a doctor, who had the sleeve also kept saying" you only have to do this once. I'm the lowest I've been in over 20 years, and now training with the Bariatric group for a 5 k walk/run! You can do this and use the tool. One day at a time!!! Hour if you need to. Enjoy the journey and we all are with you! Carol

I'm only in my second month (I have six months of insurance requirements) and I'm freaking out! I keep thinking that somehow I'm going to be the exception - I will be the one who doesn't lose even one pound even after having my gut cut out! I know that's not going to be the case, but I've had so many attempts at weight loss that have all failed - I just can't keep that little seed of doubt out of my mind.

You will be fine! Being 6'2" 384 pounds, believe me when I say that I thought there was no way I was going to complete a 14day pre op liquid ONLY diet. I bought shakes, Gatorade, etc, etc and I did not look back. Like people stated in other threads, after the third day, I didn't focus on not eating, but just drinking my shakes, Water etc on my schedule. My body told me when I was hungry and I had a drink. Jello and Popsicles were/are great and helped me.

The days leading up to surgery, there was one moment were I almost lost it and wanted to give up. I had told friends, coworkers and family that I was having surgery and I thought what if I failed, what if I eat the wrong thing, what if the weight don't fall off? But then I heard a whisper that said, look at how far I have brought you.. In your pre-op diet, you lost 14 pounds. You are already doing great! He is in control and you will do just fine. Use the tool and I will see you at your goal line!

My surgery was on 4/1. After coming home, I was weighing myself daily, but I had to stop. I will weigh myself again on Monday, but I do know the last weigh in was 355 which is 29 pounds down.

You can do it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
