I'm up at 2:30 am...not happy right now!! I've been sleeping in the recliner part of my couch since I came home, but not sleeping really well, so I tried to sleep in bed for the first time tonight. I made it from around 10:30 until just about 2:00 and then woke up and couldn't get comfortable again. It feels like my chest (ribs) hurt. So I sat up and got super dizzy - that has gotten better, but still hasn't gone away yet. Obviously some nausea usually comes with the dizziness... I had called my doctor's office yesterday to fax my paperwork so I could go back to work on Monday. Now I'm nervous that I'm jumping the gun and trying to go back too soon. I was approved to be out until 4/24, but I know I don't need that long (surgery was 3/26). I have my 3 week follow-up on 4/12 so I have to be out then anyway...but there are important things going on that I should really be a part of, including a really big meeting on 4/11. What would you do??

I would take the full time off so that when I went back I would be stronger. I only had 3 weeks off because 3 weeks before my surgery I started a new job, but I feel that I am ready to go back- I just hope it doesn't bite me in the butt!

I would talk until at least through the 10th if you can, or 2 weeks if possible. I work at a desk job from my home office and was back working within a few days but it wasn't easy. My stomach was unpredictable. I had a business meeting one week out and had horrible diarrhea right before I left for it and ended up taking another shower (I'm excessive that way). Prayed all day that nothing would happen and it ended up being okay--but I would have avoided a meeting that close to surgery if possible.

Thanks everyone... I just had a "come to Jesus" talk with my husband. He reminded me that in this case, I need to come first and that I have come too far to mess anything up now. I think I'm going to call the doctor's office today and rescind my request - and not go back until after my follow-up next week. The work world will go on without me... :)

You're exactly right - work can wait! I took off three weeks. I did fine when I went back, but you have to get your Protein in to keep feeling good. I also found that it was much easier for me to get on a regular eating and Protein Drink schedule when I am at work.

We're sleeve-date buddies, and I went back on the 29th. It was a little difficult but by no means impossible. That said, if staying out for a month had been an option, I probably would have!

I was sleeved on 3-20 and returned to work on 4-1 and it was too soon. I ended up just doing half days for the first week and plan on returning for regular days starting on Monday. I was very tired.

I am still feeling kind of woozy today - went to see my PCP to see if my BP was low...perfectly normal. She said my body is probably just feeling the shock of all the changes, and she is all for me staying home, too. After all - losing over 21 lbs. in 10 days can certainly throw a body for a loop! I'm going to take full advantage of my time at home to just rest up, get in a routine, and feel GOOD! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
