Breakfast Ideas

Recommended Posts

I am now 8 weeks post op and my Nut has cleared me to eat pretty much anything. I am having a hard time with Breakfast options. I am burnt out on grits & eggs and I don't like any of the other hot cereals (oatmeal, cream of wheat, malt o meal). Any good good options y'all have tried for breakfast???? Thanks!

Do you like grits? I bought a Jimmy Dean turkey sausage Breakfast bowl the other day for two bucks at Walmart. It will make about 4 meals for me. I emptied the contents into a freezer bag, and then zapped me a small bowl...added extra cheese and a tad of mild picante sauce and it was great :)

That sounds good...thanks! I love grits but I have been eating them pretty much everyday and I need a break from them.

Breakfast is kinda a boring meal. Not much choice really! Normally I just have a Protein shake. But some days I like an egg scramble with salsa and cheese. Or an egg scramble with sausage and mushrooms and spinach.

I like getting in mostly Protein to keep me going. The cereals really don't stay with me very long.

Hehehe I know you said you were sick of eggs!

I haven't tried any cereals yet, but maybe I'll experiment with shakes and see how that works for me. Thanks! I do the egg variation thing but that's pretty much my only option or the grits which does not have much protein, if any.

I'm 7 months out and still can't really stomach much for breakfast. I just don't feel like eating. I'll have a cup of tea first thing, then a small yoghurt or cheese and crackers for morning tea. What are grits?

I drink a premier shakes ready made and they really fill me up and they are yummy at 4 months out.

But a lot of people make smoothie type Protein shakes with some added fruit .

I am also burnt out on those Premier shakes! Been drinking those since pre-op. I drink one on the way home from work but they are too thick for me to stomach in the morning.

Grits are dried ground hominy. It's kind like malt-o-meal but definitely a southern thing. Depending on what part of the US your in you would either put sugar or salt in them. Never understood the salt thing lol :)

I also start my day with green tea with lemon. I usually don't eat anything solid til almost 10 am. Grits are a hot Cereal made of hominy. Don't really know how else to explain them but they are really popular down south. (I'm from TX).

I prefer my grits savory. As a kid I ate them with sugar but as an adult I prefer cheese or onions in mine.

I had to google what hominy was lol. I'm Australian and we have nothing like that here, other than oats for porridge or rice cereal for babies.

I'm just not hungry of a morning, but find myself grazing at night, do you find this too? I never want to force myself to eat just because I SHOULD eat something, because I like feeling restriction and don't want to get into the habit of forcing my stomach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
