I've decided to have the sleeve surgery and my doctor said she thought that would be a good choice. I thought at first that the long line of staples would just dissolve eventually until I did some research and found out that they will just stay in there forever and scar tissue will form over them. Anyway, I asked my doctor about that and I can't remember exactly what she said, but she did tell me that they get pushed out eventually and you will just poop them out. Has anyone else heard this?

No, they are there permanently. If they were to work loose they'd probably go the other way into your abdominal cavity and not into your stomach. And because of their shape and sharpness they are not something that would pass through well at all.

They are made from titanium, designed to be permanent and will easily outlast you.

Maybe the doctor just misunderstood what I asked or something because I thought that sounded strange. I was just wondering about the staples tearing if I overate or something and somehow that conversation evolved into the staples coming out...lol

it's unlikely to tear. Developing a leak is a possibility early on which is why there is generally such a rigid post-op diet. Risk of leaking decreasing rapidly though and by week 6 is pretty minimal and it's nearly unheard of past a couple months out. I can say with certainty by the 6-8-10 week mark you will be miserable, throw up and foam something fierce before you could eat enough to damage the suture line.

Yeah, I can see that...lol. I do wish they dissolved eventually though. It freaks me out think about something foreign being inside my body. I swallowed one of my braces when I was a teenager and I've never forgotten about it ... I've always wondered if it's still in there! LOL

I watched a video and the stapler dropped some staples I wonder if they get those out or just leave them..pretty freaky that they are there for ever.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
