Has anyone had to do a psyc eval for insurance purposes??? If so what is it?? What type of questions and what are they looking for?

Mine consisted of speaking to a therapist, the those booklet tests with all the little dots and a number 2 pencil....took a couple hrs.

Pretty much everyone had to do one. It's part of the insurance approval process. Mine was 2 appt.s and included talking with the therapist and answering some questionnaires. They want to make sure you can mentally handle the surgery and the whole process that goes along with it.

He basically wanted to make sure I knew this was a tool, not a quick and easy fix. Make sure there was no underlying reason you will fail. At least that was my experience. I was worried, but it went well.

I have to have a psych eval for my insurance. I go in a couple of weeks to do mine.

Psych evals are very different. Some meet and speak with a therapist, others just answer questions (like a test).

Me personally, I sat in a room with a "student" doctor and she asked me random questions, some of which were really silly, and then she spoke with the "real" doc and they concluded I was a good candidate.

Overall mine took about an hour. My advice would be to just be honest and you'll be fine. :)

no test for me.. just asked questions about my life, my past, my weight and why I wanted to do this. Approval was sent the next day.

My psych eval was 10 minutes. I answered one test about my feelings and then he said you're done. 125 for pretty much nothing lol

Lol mine too! After the eval I so realized I'm in the wrong line of work lol

I was self-pay and was still required to complete the psych evaluation. I met 1:1 with a therapist and she essentially made sure I didn't have any underlying psychological issues that would impede my success or possibly cause me to hurt myself. She also seemed very interested in the type of support structure I had (family, friends, work). It should never feel like a "test" - it should be an evaluation with a recommendation.

You won't be doing yourself any favors by telling them what you think they want to hear. Any good mental health professional will detect this right away. Remember, you are doing this for yourself, and the only person you might hurt is yourself - so honesty and accountability will take you very far in this journey!

I just finished mine on the 1st and it took from 1030 am -1 pm. I felt the doctor I went to was VERY thorough.

She asked the usual questions about my support system, dieting habits, family medical history, my medical history etc. but she also asked me what I knew about the sleeve, what I knew about what to expect pre and post op, what were some if the complications that I knew about, how I planned on adapting my lifestyle after the surgery (I'm a college student living on campus so this surgery means no more meal plans). Thank God for this site! Haha

I also had 5 short booklets (1-2 pages) to fill out. One was a sheet with a few sentence prompts like "Sometimes I wish" and you had to complete the sentence. All of those dealt specifically for the gastric sleeve. I also had 370 true or false questions that I had to bubble in.

Like I said I felt my doctor was VERY thorough from reading others experiences on here, but I'm glad she was. I would much rather know a professional opinion on how realistically they think I'd be able to cope with the surgery and its changes than to have problems later. Just be honest and you'll be fine :-)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
