It really depends on your surgeon. Mine differentiates full liquids from Clear Liquids in that you can drink the "milky" Protein Shakes, keifer, skim milk, 8 oz of 50 percent diluted juice per day, etc. My surgeon does not allow pudding or yogurt at this stage, although some doctors do. We were also allowed pureed and strained Soups. Can you get a handout or diet from your surgeon or nutritionist since it varies so much from doctor to doctor?

Well they gave me some paperwork but it does not really specify. I found it odd because my NUT said not to avoid sugary foods (jellos, juices, popsicles). She wanted me to get my calories however I could.

I think I may email them and ask about full liquids.

That sounds like a good idea, Christie. The jellos and such (full sugar not sugar free) might have been more during clear liquids rather than full liquids? I would ask about how much Fluid and Protein they want you to try to get in too. Good luck!

I find it hard to believe that your surgeon did not give you specific guidelines. What kind of surgeon did you have? Full liquids are those that are not clear; strained creamy Soups, yogurt, pudding, shakes(thin), thinned cream of wheat.

My surgeon doesn't allow yogurt, pudding, or thinned cream of wheat until the puree stage (not full liquids)...it is so true that all surgeons are different.

Thank you to everyone who responded. It was very kind not to judge my lack of attention at the docs office and just inform me of what full liquids are. I'm a happier woman knowing I get to wake up to something other than broth and Jello :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
