First my question is what all should I bring with me to the hospital for a more comfy stay? I didn't take anything but myself, my stay was minimal and hospitals are filled with germs and I didn't want to bring those germs home with me. For me, less is more.

Also, What are some high protien surgar free shakes & where did you find them ? I drink Premier Protein, 1 gram of sugar. For the powdered mix, I use Designer whey French vanilla.< /p>

I honestly didnt need much and wasn't up for much in the hospital. I brought way more then I needed. I used my phone, iPad (used my iPad very little), chargers, one pair of sweat pants, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, Chapstick (important), and that's it.

Hi Nate,

Wear the biggest pair of comfortable sweats or shorts so you will be comfortable on the way home! I also wore a really big zip front sweat shirt because it was easy to throw on over my hospital gown for all the walking you HAVE to do! No reason to flash everybody my lumpy parts!

I brought my favorite pillow, they will supply a lot for you (toothbrush toothpaste etc)

You may want your laptop and such...

As for shakes I really like the premier pre made shakes you get them at costco or SAMs club.

30 grams Protein low sugar.

Sweats, comfy clothing, slippers because they'll want you to walk, walk, walk! Chapstick, toothbrush, change of undergarments, phone, charger, i brought my ipad and I don't know if your dr does this but I was put in a binder to help hold me in and heal my muscles after the laparoscopic surgery.

You'll want to try all the types of Proteins before you commit because some find that they're not tolerant to whey or soy or just flat out can't hack the taste. You don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on something and find yourself stuck with it. Just remember to ask the nurses for suggestions and sip sip SIP...don't be in a hurry to get it down because it WILL hurt if you take a big drink. Good luck and please let us know how you do!!!

What to bring with you?

Well honestly don't bring much. You won't even bother because you will be just being in the moment feeling what you are feeling. I would bring PJ Pants and slip on slippers but I really didn't use those. Hospitals give you non slip socks and I just stuck with those. I didn't want to bother. I hated my IV so the idea of typing or texting didn't work for me. I left that for my mom and my boyfriend to do. They have toothpaste there. You will absolutely use that. The hospital gave me stuff to wash myself down but honestly I didn't want to do anything with that IV in. I waited until I got home. Other than chapstick that's about it. Don't go crazy bringing stuff. I did and it was a waste. Instead focus on what you need when you get home.

Protien - I love Premeir. Make sure you can even have that the first 2 weeks. Most people are on clears for 2 weeks.

Take care and good luck to you :)

I went in with a pair of sweats a t-shirt, a hoodie and some flip flops, came out the next day just like I went in.

For Protein, I highly endorse the Premier brand that you get from Sams' or costco, not overly sweet, an easy drinker. The vanilla can be altered with sugarfree syrups or you can blend them with p-nut butter or fruits when you get to that stage. I don't do powders, because to me, they are just dreck. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
