When do you drink you shake?

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks post op Friday. I've never been a Breakfast person, and the shakes don't go down well in the mornings so I eat something solid. I drink my shake about this time of night when I get comfy and watch my shows. It's that last snack after dinner and the chocolate gives in to that sweet craving I always ate this time of night (it's not Oreos and milk but hey, those days are over lol). Do you think I need the Protein earlier in the day? I'm up to 65g a day now including the shake.

65 grams of Protein is good. If you only need one shake to get your Protein in you are doing fantastic!

I do two shakes per day. One for breakfast and one like you at night. I'm getting about 90 grams per day. 30 in the morning. I do either a Mocha type shake with coffee, milk and chocolate Protein powder or a half a banana, milk, Water and vanilla Protein Powder. My night time one is the premier chocolate. Its great protein and desert for me! I read an article that talked about protein being important for breakfast, post work out and before bed. It helps the body heal and recover. Getting the rest from food. I'm 4 weeks out so eating canned tuna, salmon and chicken as my other sources of protein.

I will be glad when I am 3 or so months out and have a good feel for what works for me for my new forever! So far, I am loving my sleeve and thinking my sleeve is loving me!

If you like Oreos and milk - try the Syntrax Double Stuffed Cookie Protein Shake powder...tastes just like milk that you put Oreos in and let them disintegrate... :)

To me it tastes like a milk shake if you mix it with milk. You can get it at The Vitamin Shoppe - and yes they have online ordering.

I do skim milk with my shakes usually either in the afternoon or around midnight (sort of like a midnight snack) because it fills me up at night, cures night hunger and puts me to sleep.

Also - just a suggestion not sure if you are using a certain kind but you can inquire about a Protein powder called Body Fortress they have several different flavors and with two scoops and 16oz of skim milk I get in 78g of Protein just from shakes alone. But what made me think of mentioning this was the 'Cookies and milk' - Body Fortress makes a powder called Cookies and Creme. You might be interested in it. Right after surgery I had issues with protein because the powder I bought was vanilla Creme (vanilla became repulsive to me after surgery - even so much as the smell of vanilla perfume) so I switched to Body Fortress chocolate Peanut Butter and most days I look forward to drinking it. Sold at Walmart for approx. 15-20$ for a huge tub.

You are using that 2 scoops for 2 shakes right because your body can only absorb like 35 grams of protein at a time?

But if that were really true the '35g rule' at a time - why would they make Protein shots with 40+grams? Hmm.

Don't know just telling you what my NUT said and what I have read numerous times.

I've read that too. I decided to switch it up today and drink an Isopure since I boght them and their in the fridge. I put 10 oz IsoPure, G2 fruit punch, and put a little strawberry lemonade crystal light in and it's pretty yummy!

I don't do shakes anymore, but when I did I drank one between lunch and dinner. It gave me a little boost of energy. But if doing a shake after dinner keeps you from making bad choices, that's perfect!

It's highly debatable whether or not your body can (or can't) absorb a "certain amount" of Protein at a time. I've read that your body can absorb all the protein that you ingest, no matter how large the amount. In the end do whats right for you. I drink my Protein Shakes first thing in the morning for breakfast. Usually about 2 hours after waking I'll drink it and it takes away my cravings and I'm not as hungry throughout the day. Today my Isopure Protein Shake I used 2 scoops, which equals 50g of protein. If I don't drink it first thing in the morning then I wont drink it at all. Its become a routine for it to be my first meal of the day now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
