Anybody doing liquid diet right now?

Recommended Posts

I am on day two of the 10 day liquid diet. I got the carnation Protein Powder, they have the right amount of protien per shake when you mix them with skim milk and they are not thick and nasty. the other kind of protien shakes have too much protien in them to drink 6 of them a day. =) Also buy french onion Soup and eat the broth from that, it has the most flavor when you are ready for broth. =) I would love a piece of pizza today. ha!

Thanks for the tips guys! I hate Protein shakes, but I will definetely try the broth. I was thinking of buying the Protein Shakes made by Atkins. They have 15 grams of protein...they are super expensive though.

you can get sample packs from GNC. You really want to get this nailed down before surgery. Protein shakes are a staple item. You can get protein from broth, but it will take an awful lot to equal the protein you get from a shake. My favorite is the Premier brand that you can get from Sam's or costco. Not overly sweet or thick. The vanilla can be altered with some sugar free syrups. The chocolate is really good too.

My surgery is April 29th so I've been trying to find the right Protein drinks for when I start liquids too. Today I went into a Vitamin Shoppe ( they're online too) and they have protein water! I bought 3 individual bottles to try but each bottle has 40g protein, 0 sugar, 0 carbs. The guy that I talked to in there said that's how he gets most of his protein. He said they are really good and you can just sip all day :-)

Try carnation Breakfast. U can mix it with skim milk and make it the taste and consistancy you like. When u mix with skim milk it gives about 16 grams of protien and doesn't have to taste thick and nasty. Hang in tjere on the liquid diet. Mine was 10 days too and it is hard. Try French onion. Soup the broth is very flavorful and make some Jello jiigglers! Makes it seem like you have something to chew on. I am in the hospital now had surgery on Friday. So far so good.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
