Boy...did I find that out the hard way today! I'm just over a week post-op, and still on all liquids. I was getting so tired of sweet stuff (shakes, Jello, popsicles) and broth was just WAY too salty. I've never liked salt - but now I think I'm super sensitive to it. I talked to my dietician yesterday and asked if she thought I could strain the "stuff" out of my favorite Thai Soup (Tom Kha Gai) and she said it should be okay. Wow. Not so much. I had probably one ounce of the stuff and talk about heartburn!! Wound up calling my doc because I'm already on Nexium - he had me take a Pepcid on top of it and said to call him tomorrow to let him know how it went. So today, I decided to make my own non-salty broth...have it in the crockpot right now. In the meantime, back to the sweet stuff. Anyone else have the same problem with the sweet/salty thing??

Most flavors (and smells!) seem more intense but especially chemically-tasting stuff. No more sugar free anything! I'm sick of artificial sweeteners. And Jello, and pudding, and boullion cubes, and Isopure. Blech. Fortunately I still like my unjury Protein.

For broth, I use Better than Bouillon, still a bit salty but I Water it down. Comes in chicken or Beef.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
