Has anyone travelled after surgery? I'm going to Spain in about a month nad I wanted to know if anyone had travelled so close to the operation and did they had any problems?

I travel all the time. My first out of state trip was about a month and a half after my surgery and I had no problems at all. My first trip, period, after surgery was a day and a half after, and we drove about 2 hours to visit some family.

BTW, you didn't mention when your surgery is or was, so I'm not sure how much time "so close" is referring to.

I traveled 2 weeks after my surgery, we went to Cancun. My port area was still a little sore, however that didn't stop me from having a good time. You shouldn't have any problem.

My DH is retired from AA and we have time AND flight priviledges, so I fly a lot. I have never had any problems. As always, though, sometimes I can eat something and sometimes I can't. It isn't the altitude - it's the damn band!

I spent a week in the Disney World theme parks 8 weeks after surgery with no problems. I even rode the roller coasters. My biggest problem was not being able to find low calorie drinks that were not carbonated. I was stuck with $3 a bottle Water the whole trip. We just went back and they now have light lemonade. ~Mandy

I've just been approved by my insurance, no set date for surgery yet, but I'm so excited at the prospect of being able to fasten the seat belt on the plane without struggling with it... traveling will HAVE to be even better after weight lose!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
