hello from Alberta Canada

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am just starting my research about lapbanding and found this wonderful website. I am told the waiting list in Alberta and Canada is 2-4 years so I will be going south for my procedure. A friend in my area has had the procedure and is looking and feeling marvelous. I will be looking for a good place to have the procedure in the US or Mexico, so I would love any references. I am also looking at the cost, etc. so I can plan when I can have it done.

I'm excited. I look forward to talking to all of you over the next while. Take care all.

Hi there! Just found your post. I am from northern Alberta. I too have researched the lap band procedure and agree it is the best one to have. I am going to Mississauga Ontario in FEbruary for my procedure. I will pay for it myself ($16,000) but worth every penny. Keep in touch and let me know how you do south of our border.

Hello RoadDancer and welcome. I'm glad you found us.

I'm from BC and chose to have my surgery in Mexico. You might want to look at some of the local Washington and Idaho threads for someone relatively close to you.

Hi there

I am from around the Edmonton area, I am going for surgery July 14, I am nervous. I am going to Dr. Kuri in Mexico. It is going to cost me $7,000. I have already had a hip replacement and now my knees are starting to go. I sure would like to hear from someone that has had this done, I am hoping that this time, this is the answer. I have done everything, Dr. Bernstein, Optifast, Weight watchers and on and on

I am being banded by Dr. Kuri on July 21st. I was actually married in Alberta, 6 years ago and 75 pounds ago. I am looking forward to becoming my old self and visiting Alberta for our next anniversary. Good luck on your surgery. :tongue_smilie:

I don't know where you are at in alberta but I'm from spokane, WA and I had my surgery in Richland, WA. It cost about 9,000. I love my surgeon and his statistics are really great! his name is Dr. Fox.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
