Tilted port?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill on Wednesday and the Dr said that my port is tilted to the left. I was wondering if any of you have had this problem. Do you think that it could flip all the way over? And if it did. What do they do for that? Sorry I have so many questions. I know I should have asked him. It seems like I never think of what to ask until I am home from the office. I just keep wondering if it flips will insurance cover having it moved.

I had my first fill yesterday and the dr. seemed like he was really poking around. I was getting concerned and asked him everyting was all right. He said all was fine, my port doesn't lay completely flat, some peoples don't. I had a fill , no problem.

Sorry, I don't have answers to any of your questions.

Good luck with your journey!

Question!!! I am very nervous because I can't feel my port anymore.

I would have thought it would be MORE palpable after wt loss. But I used to be able to poke around on my tummy and feel it. Now I can't find it. I didn't want to go mushing around to much but now I am very worried.

Can a port move so much that it can't be accessed for a fill?

What do they do about it? Wouldn't it hurt if it was moving? (I haven't had any pain).

I can't get in to see my doctor til Jan 7th, now I think I will worry myself silly for the next 4 weeks.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I am also supposed to get a fill my next doctor visit. What happens if they can't find my port? If the port moves, does it automatically mean surgery to correct it?

Ok...I am really worried about this.:)

He was not to concerned. He said a lot of peoples tilt after a big weight loss. He gave me my fill with no problem. I am just worried about it flipping over. Luckily this last fill might have been it for me. At least for a while anyways. Oh and Missy C. I could not feel my port at all until about 2 months ago. So dont worry yet. I know when I lay on my back and lift up like I am doing a sit up it pops up a lot more. I also heard that if it flips it is a very minor procedure done in the Drs office. Good luck to you.

I have had 7 fills, on the 4th fill I was told that my port was sitting sideways and the nurse was not concerned at all....the nurse had no problem giving me a painless fill. When I went back for my next fill the port had adjusted itself back to its proper position.

My port tilt seems to change with each fill (3 so far). I was trying to check on it all the time, but at the last fill the nurse easily found her spot. Let your health care professional worry about where your port is. A port that is too palpable can be a daily problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
