Ohio Sleeve patients?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, Im waiting to hear on the exact date. My pre op final appt is in the process of being scheduled. I get my surgery date then. Hoping it is only a small waiting period, I figured like 4-5 weeks, we'll see though. I am going thru Dr. Noria. I really liked her. I met her in my first class to learn about the process and she made a great impression. Who are you using?

How many preop appointments have you had with her? Have you already been approved?

Hello everyone! I'm going through OSU as well. I've already done the psych eval, EGD, EKG, and working through the pre/post op courses now.

I've had my first eval, EKG, psych eval, my EGD and sleep study are scheduled. My question is this....does OSU contact you to schedule the pre/post op courses or do I need to call and schedule them?

Hey! I spoke to my coordinator about it, and she left the scheduler a message. Then she (I think her name was Kelly) contacted me. She told me they usually like to wait until after you've had your psych eval done in case he/she recommends specific courses. She went ahead and scheduled mine anyway and said we could modify it if Dr. Kramer determined I needed something different.

Hope that helps! Let me know if I can give anymore info from my experience so far.

This Wednesday I will meet my 6 month requirement for my insurance then all I have to do is wait for the approval to set my surgery date. I would greatly appreciate some info on a good Sleeve support group in Cincinnati, I know I cannot do this by myself.

I'm still waiting to schedule my pre op. Ive completed all the necessary classes/testing, so at this point I am literally waiting them to call to get me in for my pre op which at that time gives the date for surgery. Getting anxious to say the least. I have to agree with Nilla that most of this is waiting on people to get back to me. Keeping fingers crossed they call in the next few days!

I think there are a lot of factors that go into how long it takes to get through the process such as insurance requirements, OSU physician requirements, persistence of assigned program coordinator and patient, how many others are working through it, etc. I've read on other sites of some that got through OSU's program in as little as two months, where others took a year or more.

I initially contacted OSU in November, and my first appointment with them was in December. I had to wait another month before my psych eval, then almost another month before EGD and beginning pre/post-op courses, and I took all first available appointments. Also, my coordinator said she wasn't sure if my 3-month supervised weight loss attempt with my PCP will count because I was on adipex along with diet and exercise. If not, then I'm back to the drawing board on that, and I won't find out until they submit for insurance after I've completed pre/post-op courses.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
