I'm almost five weeks out and I've been drinking Water around the clock. I don't like flavored drinks they're too sweet but now water hurts! It's uncomfortable and makes me burp/feel nauseous. Any suggestions? Anyone else feel like this?

Ok this is from member maharet111

I always like her answer so I copy and paste it to these questions.

Okay a little science here as told to me by my surgeon. Water has a high surface tension, meaning that its barrier to allow it to be broken down is hard. Think of a steel paper clip that floats on the surface. Now your stomach is like the size of a coffee stirrer at this point due to swelling etc. because of the high surface tension it is hard sometimes for the Water to be absorbed and gets kind of backed up if that makes sense. So when you dilute water or mix it with something if breaks that high tension and thus can be absorbed faster. Not everyone experiences it but it is one of those side effects that can happen.

Try different temperatures that helped me. Also I added just a little unsweet caffine free tea. Helped me too.

OMGosh, you girls are amazing! I hope I remember all this stuff & hints I'm reading now by the time I get sleeved! If not, I'll be counting on you all to come to my rescue too!!!

Note to Kelly: Hope you find something that works for you. I'm the same...I hate anything sweet, especially if I constantly have to drink it. I'm more of a Water girl, or unsweetened tea or coffee girl. I know I'm going to suffer not having my coffee anymore, but what would be worse for me is to constantly have to add something to my water! :( I guess I'm just putting it in my brain as of now that it's like medicine & it will help me get to where I want to be one day. Makes sense what laura-ven posted. I really like sneed's suggestion too, as that's what I'd probably do! Good luck to you!

I'm the exact same way, I add a little g2 to my Water and it goes down easier. I'm hoping it will get better because I love plain Water.

I use True Lemon, True Lime, and True Orange - adds flavor without any sweetness. Helps a lot! I'm getting sick of sweet stuff...

yup! even just making tea or adding a little lemon can help. I took lemon, squeezed to taste and canteloupe an blended, then strained. really refreshing - you can add spinach juice too. DON'T LAUGH! lol, its very tasty.

At almost 6 months (next Thursday) - I still can't tolerate plain water! Just the small amount to take my morning meds. and brush my teeth is all I can stand. (I'm wondering if my sleeve was made too thin! I'm very restricted still: meat, veggies still go down like cannon balls-chewed or not!) Everyone is so different! I miss my plain Water. I keep trying it waiting for the day to come that I can drink a nice refreshing 8 oz. without feeling sick!)

I'm 2 weeks out but I pretty much live on decaffinated unsweetened ice tea. I brew it at home constantly. The G2 I drank before surgery is too sweet now. The frustrating thing for me is that I feel like I have this constant thirst and no amount of liquids gets rid of it!

Be careful with the Decaf tea. I've read from various sources that although caffeine is the diuretic, decaf tea can still dehydrate you.

Laura forgot to copy the part where I said Bill Nye the science guy was sexy :)

Any drop of something else will break the Water tension..and make it more comfortable. I love the crystal light squeeze bottles!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
