When did surgery scars fade? If ever...

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 weeks post op and they are looking much better, but still look obviously like I was cut in 5 places. Would love to wear a two piece by summer, but it's not going to look pretty at the current rate. For all y'all who are further along than me, how long did it take for the to be not so obvious?

Mine are still here at the three month mark.

I'm almost at 6 months and mine are still here but not red at all and pretty faded. If my skin wasn't so loose I would be comfortable wearing a 2 piece with my scars the way they are now.

I stopped seeing my scars when my stomach/chest hair grew back. :D Being the fairer sex, I'm guessing you are at a disadvantage here. I've heard and read that Vitamin E helps. When looking closer, I really noticed that mine had pretty much faded by 1 year post op. I'm sure there are other factors such as age, skin tone, size of scars, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about it and recommend that you go forward with that two piece plan for the summer.

At 3.5 months out mine are still very obvious. Good thing I'm not ever planning on wearing a two piece- a one piece forever would be fine by me! LOL

My bigger ones are still scabbed but the smaller ones are barely noticeable, just a slight pink. I'm anticipating that they will be less noticeable than my stretch marks in the next months. One of my smaller ones looks less pink than a bug bite I had prior to surgery. I'm about 2.5 weeks out so I must be healing a bit faster. Maybe mederma or Vitamin e will help or cocoa butter

lol at 4 months, mine are horribly dark still and my son still thinks they are owie's! :( I don't see mine ver fading away. However my skin is so pale that it looks translucent at times...so it is what it is for me! lol

I guess I'm relieved that it's unlikely that my chest hair will cover my scars.... :D

I'm 8 weeks out and I even have a light scar in the shape of a square around the incision for my drain; it's from the bandages! I think I had an allergy or something.

9 months - still here. Not too concerned because not very noticeable. I might use a cream at some point to fix this, but not feeling the urge to yet.

I have 2 of the five that are faded to a place were you don't see them, unless you look close. the other 3 are still pretty noticable scars, but I can see them still changing. My doc recommended that after every shower I rub vit. E oil on them in a circular motion. I am awful at being consistent with that, but I do try.

I don't know if we need to remove evidence of surgery. Maybe it is because I am a guy, but I look at scars as war wounds that each tell a story. Wear them with pride! I have various scars from different repairs in life. I like telling people about where they come from. I am like an old quality piece of furniture with lots of nicks and scratches. Apologies in advance if this metaphor is really bad. Lol.

I've had 6 laparoscopic surgeries regarding wls and a couple were able to use same spots ... But my stomach has many scars and some are from 8 years ago until recently. Can't say mine look like the normal laparoscopic surgery.. I look more like a drive by shot gun victim. oh well!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
