The procedure itself took about 20 minutes. I had mine done at the hospital, so I had to go to pre-op for a while before. I remember nothing at all about the actual procedure. I had an IV put in ahead of time, got wheeled in and was put under. I woke up in recovery, left about half hour later. They won't let you drive yourself.

I was completely out for the entire thing and only had a very mild sore throat later that day. I had never been under anesthesia before and was very nervous, but it was no big deal at all. Good luck!!

just make sure you have a driver, my hospital wouldn't put you to sleep unless you had a driver to take you home. Thankfully i did, and i remember nothing about it. It is super simple and fast. Good luck!

It was the first time I was ever knocked out and I was sooo happy when I woke up, because now I'm not nervous about being out for the "big" surgery :) No worries at all, promise!

Just got home and i feel great. It was really nothing to be worried about. They put me to sleep with the iv sedation. In all i was only out about 15 min. Which i must say was the best sleep i have ever had. LOL My throat was a bit sore but i just eat a sandwich snd im fine. The only thing is that the doctor found a hernia which he will be removing during my sleeve surgery but its nothing to worried about it is common after pregnancy snd in over weight people and i am both. Lol

Thanks to everybodys comments it really helped me along!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
