How to know if band slipped

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I wanted to know if anyone has had their band slip on them, and what were your symptoms. I was banded 07/26/06 and I have only lost 18 lbs. I had my first fill 10/18, and I am going for my second fill next Wednesday. In the past week I do not fill restricted at all, and it just doesn't fill the same when I eat. I think I might be getting myself too worked up. I would love some info. Thanks!!

I have no experience, however I have read that other people can't even keep Water down if their band has slipped. Try doing a search of "band slippage" or something like that and you will find information.

Good luck.

Actually, with the band, you are supposed to lose approximately 1-2 pounds per week. Based upon that, you are not too far off from where you should be. I don't think your band has slipped, from what I have read, you would be experiencing serious symptoms. It sounds to me like you have just not reached proper restriction yet. You mentioned you have only had one fill. Most people take 2-3 fills before reaching proper restriction. Once you get there, you will know it and the weight will be coming off much easier.

Something to consider is that part of the effectiveness of the band has to come from you...we are not perfect, I know that! We are not the best decision-makers about food, that's why we are in bandland now...but we've got to start sometime. You didn't say what you eat or how much, but your band is just one part of the system. You are the other part. Try to be a partner, and understand that your band will do part of the work, and you will do part. Your weight loss journey will be much more relaxed and enjoyable that way. You are losing very well, I think, and the next fill will help you ought a little more. Just don't get overly restricted, because all kinds of problems can begin that way!

Good luck, and if you are still worried, make your next fill under flouro, so they can see the status of your band. It is probably fine, but there's no need to be so worried, when you don't have to be!

I was so petrified of exactly the same thing when I was just starting out in this journey...I must admit I didn't have much will power! but just live each day at a time...try to make good food/amount choices as much as possible. Start excercising...it will make you feel so good about yourself and isn't this primarily what we are doing this for...to feel good about ourselves! Don't fret it will get easier...and very exciting when you start watching the scales go down.!

Hi Everyone,

Had my first fill yesterday. 2cc's. I'm having some knawing pain like someone's pinching my insides on the left side. I'm pretty sure it's from band being to tight, although I'm having no trouble eating or swallowing and it started about 1 hour after my fill, feels a little better in the morning then it starts again for the remainder of the day. Do you think I need an unfill or will it eventually go away. :help:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
