6 month diet - Weight watchers?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting started with my 6 month requirement for a physician managed diet. Weight watchers was one of the suggested diet plans, but they are so expensive. Has anyone done one of these diets any other way which costs less?

You can try doing weight watchers online. I am pretty sure it is less expensive than going to the meetings.

Good luck!

You're right....I just checked and it is nearly half! I just sent weight watchers an email asking them to switch me to online only.

Thanks!!!

I'm doing weight watchers. I use the monthly pass so I have access to both online and meetings. That way I have their documentation as well.

Couldn't you get weighed once a month in your doctor's office for documentation? It wouldn't even have to be a doctor's visit...just see the nurse and get it done?

....I'm a single mom, and pinching pennies wherever I can!

I could, but I am so afraid of insurance denying me! So I'm just being over cautious.

I've been doing weight watchers before I started looking into this so thankfully my 6 month is done. I did lose 30 lbs on it but I do find the meetings very helpful in making food choices which could really help you post surgery. While I did like online - the accountability of someone looking at my weight helped.

I have insulin resistance so this 30 lbs has taken over a year. Annoying. Can't wait for surgery! Good luck no matter what you decide!!

WW is awesome. I have lost 100 lbs three different times in my life prior to an injury in 09. I am nearly a month out from surgery, but I am still going for the weekly accountability of the scale & the support of the meetings. It is kinda expensive, but I know if I wasn't going ...I'd spend the weekly fee on drive thru (well, at least, before this surgery I would have!).... monthly pass is cheaper, online is cheaper...good luck!

I'm doing TOPS which was a choice for me. Way cheaper than WW. http://www.tops.org/default.aspx You can search to see if a group is near you.

I wanted to do TOPS, but it wasn't on my list. WW was my cheapest option.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
