is 1 to 2 pounds a week normal for weeks 3-6

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks out from surgery and have lost a total of 32 pounds including 12 pounds pre-op. I seen to have stalled down to about a pound or two a week??? I started at a BMI of 40 and have about 100 pounds to lose total. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

I'd like to know if that is normal also. I'm almost 4 weeks postoperative and have lost maybe 12 lbs...I follow the diet faithfully but seems as if mine is going so much slower than everyone else's .....

Personally I lose between 1-2lbs on average a week, randomly I will have an awesome week where I lose 5lbs and randomly I will have a week where I losed .5lbs... Losing and average of 1-2lbs a week consistantly is awesome! My dr and NUT told me as long as I am consistantly losing weight not to get upset at the numbers 1-2;bs a weeks is healthy! Think about it 2lbs a week adds up to 104lbs in a year! And I am sure you will see weeks with bigger losses and weeks with smaller losses as well!

Good Luck!

We all want it off fast but it isn't going to happen over night. 1-3 lbs a week is healthy loss. Keep going. Look at it over a lifetime, not just the immediate.

I am at 6 weeks yesterday have lost only 11 pounds since surgery, 17 total with pre-op, not happy to say the least, but hopeful to be at goal by end of year.

I guess 1-2 pounds per week will have to be ok for me since I do follow the diet faithfully. I haven't even introduced meat yet! Seeing the other 2 ladies at our one week postoperative appt each lose 20 pound in one week, not counting the 13-14 they lost preop, just really got to me when I'd only lost 5. I was told not to compare, but it sure is difficult. I go for my 1 month check-up on 4/8/13 and am of course curious as to how much they have lost. I'm happy to have lost 11 pounds, as of this morning, that's never coming back, but sure wish it was 20!!

My surgeon told me to stay off the scale (which I don't) and just look at how my clothes fit. Baggy but not quite ready to move down a size yet. He also said to look for a weightloss of 5-10 lbs a month. He said sometimes it would be more and sometimes it would be less but not to stress over it. I did break a stall about a week ago by drinking tons of Water.< /p>

Thank u....that makes me feel better! I can't stay off the scales either. I tried, but couldn't make it through the day. I want to lose so badly...I just thought it was me! I don't think I'm drinking enough Water though ...I'll try that, thanks Susie!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
