Everything tastes salty and bumps on my tongue

Recommended Posts

Everything I eat or drink tastes very salty. My regular cheese sticks and lunch meat taste so salty I can't eat them. Got a hamburger patty last night and commented to my husband that its so salty how can anyone eat it. Ate yogurt this morning and it was salty. My ice tea is salty. I'm also getting bumps on my tongue. Anyone else have this problem or is it unrelated to my WLS?

lunch meats very high in sodium, so is cheese. I never eat it for that reason. Cut back on salt intake, you need to anyway or you'll get Water logged.

Hmm, any changes in medication lately? Alternatively, I remember I had thrush after a surgery and everything seemed really salty to me.

I have lived on deli meat and cheese for years now so that wouldn't be the problem. I would rather have high salt intake then low Protein intake. Sodium isn't actually anything I have a problem with and I have very low blood pressure so no fear of BP problems.

I woke up sick after I posted this and went to doctor. You can visibly see that my tongue is red and inflammed but he said it isn't thrush. I have bronchitis and strep so he thinks it was probably my body letting me know I was sick or getting dehydrated. Started antibiotics and steroids today so hopefully it clears up. I have started eating yogurt daily just to be on the safe side.

I'm glad to hear you saw the doctor and you're getting some treatment, though I'm sorry to hear about the bronchitis and strep! Hope you feel better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
