WHY do you think the band had anything to do with your MS? Lots of people with MS get bands and no issues related.

I know it'sd related to the band because I have had it undercontrol for over 5 years. IT JUST CAME OUT RIGHT AFTER SURGERY.

Hi Angela,

I guess I wasn't clear. What I'm trying to say is that I seriously doubt it is due to THE BAND ITSELF, the piece of plastic.

You've had anesthesia, you've changed what you eat, you may have changed your exercise patterns, had new stresses in your life (such as the very band itself is stressful to most of us, particularly emotionally) and perhaps a number of other things. Yes, all of those are "because of the band" in one sense, but not directly because of the piece of plastic itself. You could have changed all of those things, had some other surgery, etc, without a band, and also had your MS affected.

I have family members with MS and Lupus and other related disorders/diseases, and you're right, they're all very complex and none of them have simple answers (or even a consistent set of symptoms), and that things can change. But they can also change for "no reason at all", or at least no reason we'll ever understand.

Those are a couple of the worst things I know of...and I'm thankful that I don't have either one.

I simply don't want to say "having MS and getting a band is a bad thing", as it isn't for most, even though it may in some way be for you.

cheers, and don't give up on it yet,

dan

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
