Some things I've learned since surgery

Recommended Posts

These are just a few things that I’ve learned about myself in the 4 weeks since I was sleeved.

  1. I never realized how much Water I would drink with meals. It is a lot harder than I thought it would be not to drink water before/during/after meals.

  2. I never knew how fast I ate before. Sometimes I still forget and speed eat… after only a few bites, the sleeve lets me know I doing it wrong.

  3. I never realized how much food I used to cram onto the fork/spoon. One big swallow, the sleeve lets me know it’s too much. Buying baby utensils has really helped, although I look weird eating with them.

  4. If I have to eat in a hurry, it is better to eat something liquid/puree or nothing at all. The sleeve doesn’t like fast… at all.

  5. Chewable Vitamins make me gag.

  6. liquid vitamins make me gag.

  7. Protein shakes make me gag.

  8. Taco seasoning makes everything taste better.

  9. I'm obsessed with the scale.< br />

Edited 4/16 - I'm adding a couple more things to the list of things learned:

10. The feeling of 'nausea' is very different now.

11. I miss being able to have myself a good guzzle.

Hey there skinnyginny, I really liked your post. It made me get my head out of the clouds and laugh. You are so right! I haven't had my sleeve yet, just two more days but you covered a lot of things I do now.

I can't wait for taco seasoning. The night before I was to start my liquid diet my husband asked me where I wanted to go for my last meal and I named a Mexican food restaurant we hadn't been to in years but I know they had fried stuffed chili peppers with cheese. As I sat there eating I looked up at my husband and said "This food is awful!" and he agreed, got a togo box and brought it home.

Good luck to you on your journey and look forward to your posts. :)

This reminds me of what someone told me when I had my band removed. They said if you just keep your portion to the size of a coffee mug you should be fine. I looked at him and laughed.. You realize how much I could manage to stuff in a mug? I would stuff, press, stuff etc.. It's amazing the things we do

Ok sorry.. This just made me think of that :D

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
