Good luck! I'm 6 days post-op, so I'm still really close to the front lines! Just a couple of things that I can think of... First, make sure you are learning to drink really slowly...sip, don't gulp! It will help in the beginning. Start your Vitamin regimen now so that you're in the habit - and find ones you like with your dietician/doctor's approval. Also, try some different kinds of Protein shake/supplements and have a variety around for after you get home. Make sure all of your laundry is done, clean and put away (not a huge pile like mine!!) before you go. Also, bring chapstick with you to the hospital. It's a godsend. If you're not a Water drinker now, start. It takes a lot more than you think to get in 64 oz a day!

Thank you for the advice, I will make sure I bring the chapstick, i did not think of that, however I can see where that will be very useful

For the hospital I wore extra big sweats so coming home was more comfortable.. And a really big zip up sweatshirt to throw on over my hospital gown for when I went walking through the halls! You will be walking right after surgery.

Other than that make sure you have a variety of things to drink off of your approved list. Oh and homemade chicken broth! Way better than the nasty tasting can stuff.

Oh yeah - definitely loose pants... My most annoying incision is right near my bellybutton so everything has to sit well below the waist. And sugar-free popsicles have been my savior as far as getting my liquids in when I'm having a hard time drinking. :)

I'm a week out, but prior to surgery I started getting out of the habit of drinking with meals because I knew that would be a big change for me. I started taking Multivitamins a few weeks before, and cut out soda and stopped using a straw.

I didn't bring much to the hospital with me - magazines (which I didn't even pick up once), a light-weight robe for my walks so I wasn't flashing everyone (something you can throw over your shoulders because you'll be hooked up to your IV and you can't stick your arms through anything). I brought a pair of slippers, but just ended up wearing the highly-fashionable non-slip socks they give you. I slept a lot and watched tv most of the time. I brought lip balm with me, but they had some on my bedside for me also. I wore the same clothes home that I wore there - baggy and stretchy!

Prep your fridge and freezer beforehand. Get a timer!

I made sure I had homemade broth, sugar free popsicles, and I borrowed a juicer so I could make fresh juice for myself.

Alot of people use a timer for eating. They will take a bite and then set the timer for two minutes and wait to take another bite until the timer goes off.

Clean out your kitchen, get rid of all the junk. Stock up on Water. I would steer clear of stocking up on anything else because your taste buds may change and you will toss out the stuff you won't use.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
