My friend said:"I can't believe insurance paid for YOUR surgery and not my infertility treatments. I can't control my issues."

I told her that was a mean comment to make and while I understand why she would feel that way, it was insensitive.

She apologized and is one of my biggest supporters. Sometimes people don't realize their comments or statements are insensitive.

Aren't you a sweetie :) Thanks for the kind thoughts! Really :)

I had massive complications that almost killed me and left me with damaged lungs and a stomach that is too small to allow me to take in enough calories to survive (scar tissue build up caused an already questionably small stomach to be even smaller). Long term I will be on a feeding tube for life if my volume does not increase, and that's unlikely, though we're doing our best to get to where I need to be. My son was eating more than what I can consume now when he was almost 2 (I remember because he had a feeding disorder and we had to weigh and measure his food for hospital at that age).

I'm glad you've had success :) This surgery can be a great thing and is for most, sadly it's just not that way for all of us.

I'm so sorry! That is horrible. Remember that the human body is an amazing thing...and very good at recovering. I know they say that you're not supposed to be able to stretch out the sleeve, however when swelling does go down you should be able to fit more in. I sure pray that this will be the case for you! Swelling can take a very long time to finally go down...so don't give up hope! Good luck! You are in my prayers! ((Hugs))

Tell her my insurance didn't pay for my IVF or my Sleeve :P that should make her feel better heh heh

Actually I read that hun and my first thought, having been down both roads, was that her comment was purely about her situation and not yours. IVF is so expensive and actually unaffordable to most (My treatments went far in excess of 150,000) so it's a painful subject. I'm glad she's on board though :)

Funny....while going through IVF someone said to me "I can't believe your insurance allows you to just throw your money away like that! You obviously are never going to get pregnant). Well thank you dear! Not a good friend mind you so she didn't know that my insurance wasn't paying and that it had worked for me in the past, but sheesh out of the mouths of unthinking broads!!!

Sue and Sassy, Thank you again for the kind thoughts. It is what it is...when life tosses me lemons I make a nice gin and tonic and move forward :P I'm not happy about the situation, but it can't really be changed so the only way to deal with it is to charge forward in whatever direction possible to fix it.

I am seeing experts and we are waiting until I am out of the weight loss phase to make final determinations. Likely we won't make any drastic moves until I hit my one year mark from the second surgery, so early October as long as I don't loose too much weight prior to that. (I'm about 20lbs to goal, though they may raise it up a bit given the issues). I didn't lose my stomach, which was nice :) And I didn't die. So I'm two steps ahead of where we thought I was going! Maybe a year from now I can be helpful in sharing the relative tastes...or is that feelings....of Protein shakes going in the belly button :P I bet the yucky ones aren't that bad if you don't put them in your mouth LOL

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
