Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Whoa, missed a few days there.

Tummy Tuck should be a treat after the first few days.

Patience is a hard thing. Those treatments seem to go on forever and all kinds of things in life come up to interfere. Of course, other people telling you that doesn't help.

Nurses are needed everywhere. We are building a new nursing school here to produce even more nurses. You shouldn't have too much of a time finding work. Hopefully somewhere you really like.

Yep, it does make a difference mentally when you really start liking yourself. You don't really realize how much you really were affected by your appearance until it changes so much. You also have more energy to resist it. Don't let them suck you down. They are inconvenienced by their job, let them find another one.

Go back to school and find something you like. It's really a pain to go to a job you hate or that just doesn't make your brain work. I am working on getting into a PhD program right now. I am finishing up my masters. It's a lot of work, but well worth it in the end.

I found out my problem was an ovarian cyst. Never had one before in my life. So, now I am back on birth control pills for a few weeks so hopefully it will shrink. That took four doctors to figure out. Everybody assumes it's your band. Had that tested and nothing. GP was not really concerned about it. I went to the proctologist thinking it was my intestines and he ordered a CT scan and, boom, cyst. Explains all the pain everywhere. Not to mention the moods swings and greasy complexion. Hopefully the pills work. I go back in four weeks to have an ultrasound. Both myself and the ultrasound technician are on jury duty at the same time. I am hoping neither of us gets called in.

HI there lap band ladies! Well, made it through my first night in the flatlands. It went relatively well. I have pretty low blood pressure normally and much lower whenever I've had surgery, so I did have one little glitch . . . John was helping me out of the recliner and I fainted! Luckily I was still in a sitting position!

I'll be honest . . .it hurts! Kinda like being hit in the abdomen repeatedly with a baseball bat. I can only handle one pain pill at a time (two makes me way too dizzy) so I would probably feel a little better with more, but that's okay. John had to check my drains every two hours all night, so he's kind of worn out. I can see the advantages to staying in the hospital overnight if possible, but we made it through.

When we take off the binder today to change my dressings today, maybe I'll snap a pic. BTW, they took of 6 lbs of extra goo! Woohoo!!!

Mini, how exciting for you! Not the pain part, or the fainting part, but...you know what I mean.

Julie, I'm always up for Red Robin. Just remind me as we get closer to the date.

I lost that one pound, so now I've lost an even 50 pounds since surgery. Yay! Next goal of fifteen will put me at what I weighed in 2000 after a major diet.

Haven't decided on the haircut. It's just nice to know that it's an option now that I hit that goal.

Ok, when DH was changing my dressings, I had him snap a quick pic of my incision. I'll get one from the side next time too, as it runs well around into my back. I'm very swollen in the upper part of the abdomen, but my lower belly is practically concave. It's awesome! Oh, pics are at make me heal:

Okay Julie, I am in since I have until Halloween! I am going to reach for the stars and say -25. As you know, I have no restriction and no fill until 9/30, but I will be cruising, I hope, soon after that!

Hmmm, I think I would like to be in the challenge, although it will be kind of weird with the swelling from the TT but also the amount of skin he took off. I'm going to say 12 lbs . . . .

I am excited for you and thrilled for what the next six months bring to your life. Your pain will soon subside, your swelling will too, you will touch your countours and think they feel like a someone else because it's been so long since you could feel solid, flat skin on yourself. And you will see your toes easily. The pants will slide up and zip up..no sucking in.

Friend you give those of excitement to those of us who know we will have to do the plastics after losing all that we have to and to remove what doesn't belong.

Can't wait for pictures. Meanwhile, here's one for the beaches in all our imaginations.

I needed this. Thanks.

.........

I had an ovarian cyst. Filled up with Fluid, shrunk, filled up, shrunk. No rhyme no reason. Years went by and the cyst grew unknown to me or my doctor. Only reason they knew it was there is they could feel it before I had babies, they saw it during my c sections. It ruptured. ER, lost the ovary and one tube. Five days in the hospital, three weeks up north recovering.

Be mindful that if they don't see the cyst easily, it may be hidden behind your uterus. Mine was so they did not see how large it had gotten. Pelvic exam, ultrasound both should tell them how big it is. Mine was the size of a grapefruit, prior to that an orange, prior to that, a lemon.

Welcome to Florida!

I wish you the best, it may be the size of a kumquat. I hope it is.

If you scroll back to her post - you'll find the link and the password to see her 'before' pics. She's the first of our little group to go for plastics! We're all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for her to tell us all the details.

She said she's doing good and enjoying those pain meds at the moment!

THANKS Dee. Great to catch up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
