Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Munchi, You and I are in the same place. My divorce is final and has been for over a year, but yet, I still get those late night, been drinking, calls of regret from the ex. They really tear at my soul and I hate it. I wish I was like others when they get divorced... move on and never see or talk to the ex again. There is something to say about taking a stand. I think you have to do the same when your divorce is final, you need to be free of him and be able to find some happiness. You've worked hard to be a healthy weight and it's your time to be cherished and cared for - not abused in any way!

My therapist told me this morning that I just need to quit talking to him period. He told me to be prepared for everything to escalate, to be prepared to have to call the police and file a restraining order, and basically for things to get really bad. But he was very blunt about the fact that he is obviously not going to change and that I need to do this. He also said that I should not go to NC with my mom. Go figure.

I just saw pumpkin Cheesecake Ben & Jerry's at the store last night! I ran away screaming, lol :D

I know, I got an email from them saying it was going to be in the stores...I have been trying to avoid the ice cream aisle like crazy. If I get a taste of that I will be sunk!:crying:

I just checked the B&J website. Turns out it's only available in "select retail stores" so my local grocery store might not have it. However, it's available by the scoop at my local B&J store. Now, I'll be going there straight after work for a scoop, haha. What sucks is I saw another flavor on their list that made me drool - Cheesecake Brownie! :D:blush::D

I think I'm going to have ice cream for dinner. :crying:

I'm just glad I don't have a scoop shop here or I would really be in trouble. That is the only good thing about having a layover at the Atlanta airport- they have a Ben & Jerrys!

Jamie...when do you start your pre-op? I remember the last supper thing. There are still days, that I wish I could eat like that again. Sometimes I really miss eating. Really miss it.

I really miss eating like that also some days. But for the last two weeks it's good that I can't eat like that or I would have gained 10 pounds. I am fully back into emotional eating again because of all the stress. Good thing I can only eat a little bit. :crying: (And I am so disappointed in myself for falling into the whole emotional eating thing again!)

There's actually only a few flavors of ice cream that I really like. I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream at all, which rules out a lot of stuff. I usually go for vanilla or fruity flavors. But cheesecake flavor always wins! There's a Dave Matthew's Band B&J flavor called Magic Brownies - Black Raspberry ice cream swirled with Sweet Cream ice cream and fudgy brownie chunks. :D

I need some real magic brownies right now! :crying: But seriously, that flavor is really good, and you probably haven't read me and Brandys previous posts, but we are both Dave Matthews fans...I am a huge one! I go see him every year!

I was hoping that stupid therapist would have given me some advice or anything, but not!! He probably wasn't even listening to me! Like this morning, he's already called me 4 times AND I'm at work! Yesterday, he called about 10 times before the end of the day! I wanted to scream!!!

Dee and Mal!

I will be doing the Race For The Cure too. Walking obviously, dumb knee. We are the BOOBIE BUNCH!!! We have nice T-shirts with the Booby Birds on it. Lets try to meet and have a photo op.

I am walking for my mom and for the memory of my grandma! It is always fun!!!

Brandy! That's great! I'm glad to hear you're walking too! Are you going to do the family walk or the 5k? I just bought the cutest hat from the gift shop... it's pink!!! DUH! I have such a huge cranium that I rarely find hats that fit! Now I'll have to fight my daughter for it!

Wow, that sounds great! How much did he give you?

I hear ya on that moving thing. I am such a slug. A big, Oregon banana slug. That's me. :crying:

It was 3.1 in a 10 band. I have decided I am going to get out my ol' Richard Simmons dvd today and start in. Gotta do sumthun'

Hi Deb, Glad to hear you are doing ok after you fill. It was great to meet you!

Nora, thanks so much for being there. I really enjoyed our time together.

Munch,

I know I"m in the minority here, but I love the gray one. I can tell it would really show off your shape. Go for it!

Adork, good to hear from you. That is weird about the fill levels.

I am feeling fat fat fat. Went to a charity event tonight, did not like how I looked in my dress, but really didn't have time after work to fuss around with trying on other stuff. This one fit, but I just felt lumpy in it. And of course the issue yet again that I did not have a date for this event. Sorry, just feeling whiney and sorry for myself. I am frustrated with this bandster hell thing, have no restriction, hungry as per usual, and eating the wrong things. I want a fill, and i want a ticker that moves in the right direction already!!!! (my 1st fill is next week)

You are lookin' great.....just a mood, I am sure

Thanks...i'm glad I didn't tell anybody at work about the surgery...I can only imagine what the comments would be now with no change.

You are right about keeping quiet. We don't need anymore pressure from people "watching" us. We are hard enough on ourselves

Sounds good Deb! I'm glad you have restriction. I think people forget that it's a lot of us and a little of the band. You deserve the restriction! We all do!!!

AND I wanted to thank you for spending the time with me the night we met. You're a very nurturing soul and I appreciate the heart felt chat we had!

I heard you honking when you turned the corner - I was behind the tree, so you might not have seen me waving. Can you believe I drove over there? After parking, I realized, I should have walked! It's that old "my feet are going to hurt" mentality! I've got to change my mind to match my body!

Our talk meant a lot to me, too, Dee. Again, thanks for your openness and acceptance.

But cheesecake flavor always wins! There's a Dave Matthew's Band B&J flavor called Magic Brownies - Black Raspberry ice cream swirled with Sweet Cream ice cream and fudgy brownie chunks.

We have a B&J shoppe around here, but I still go for the pint! But not for long...I'm gonna be on the losers bench soon!

Dr. K says I should do a 7 day pre-op diet since I'm currently at a 38 BMI. But I've admitted to myself that I have a problem with sodas and beer. So in order to successfully quit those two, I need to start well in advance of 7 days, haha. I've promised my husband to "start" my pre-op diet on October 5th, which is one month out. I'll first quit beer, and then after a week or so I'll quit sodas as well. Hopefully by the third week I won't be entirely bitchy, and I'll be able to officially start the low-carb portion of the pre-op diet. My plan is to do low-carb for at least two weeks, but I need to quit sodas and beer before I start low-carb. Trying to do all that at once is liable to make me kill someone - I'll be so cranky!!!

I think I would rethink the order of beer and soda. Man, I miss a cold beer....pop, not so much!

I know, I got an email from them saying it was going to be in the stores...I have been trying to avoid the ice cream aisle like crazy. If I get a taste of that I will be sunk!:D

You get EMAIL from them???:scared2: That is too scary!:D

Dee, check for a PM from me.

Don't be disappointed that you "let yourself" fall back into emotional eating. Skinny people do it too! It's part of life, so there's no shame in washing the pain away with a pint of B&J Magic Brownies...or a fifth of some goooood tequila! :D

I need some real magic brownies right now! :crying: But seriously, that flavor is really good, and you probably haven't read me and Brandys previous posts, but we are both Dave Matthews fans...I am a huge one! I go see him every year!

I've had magic brownies twice in my life, and there was nothing magical about them. I got paranoid, freaked out, and I cried a lot until finally someone forced me to go to bed - and that happened both times! It's safe to say I don't take too well to the magic herbs.

My friend's hubby asked her to marry him at a Dave Matthew's concert. He had the front row hold up a huge banner! It was really sweet!

Aww, that's such a great idea!!! How sweet! BUT that would have sucked if there'd been another woman in the vicinity who saw her name pop up on that banner and thought she was being proposed to!

That's awesome that there are some Dave fans on here. I love them! But everytime them come to concert around here it's always a Tuesday or Wednesday night, and my husband refused to go to a concert in the middle of the work week.

I'm a Parrothead though - a total Jimmy Buffett freak. I've seen him 3 times - last year I actually traveled from NC to Tampa Bay to see him in November! Love that man

Is he related to my husband? It sounds like they have the same stalker gene or something. And maybe I can get a group discount if you fly here and go to my therapist!

Let me ask you something....my soon to be ex just told me he has been seeing the sitter that sat with him while he was in the hospital outside the hospital. I think that is awfully inappropriate of her....what do you think?

Deb you might be right. I think I'll keep the beer as long as possible! :D

I can't believe that Munchie is on the B&J mailing list!! That seems like the cruelest form of torture there is! But, as a bonus, she's probably the first to know when they're having Free Cone Day! I think they do it a few times a year!

I'm totally getting B&J pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream for dinner. And I might just swing through McD's after that and get a Big Mac and fries LOL. My husband is coming home late tonight...I can take out the trash before he comes home and he'll never know how much I gorged, haha. He gives me evil looks when I eat that much crap at once. Probably because he's jealous that I'm getting the band!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
