Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, Sorry I haven't been in touch in a while, it's been crazy around here with the girls starting school and volleyball starting again.

I celebrated my birthday this week. Hubby got me a 24" IMAC computer (I LOVE IT!!!!!), the girls got me perfume, mil got me a family ring and I got myself a tattoo (it's butterfly, when my mom was sick the nurse kept telling her that when she was finished she would be a beautiful butterfly and now she is on my ankle). I will post a picture later.

I am glad to be back, I sure missed you guys...

Sounds like you had a FABULOUS b-day. What a lot of great gifts! Your tat sounds great and I am envying your IMAC, let me tell you!

Thanks Mini I did have a FAB Bday. I love my MAC too. Our school district here uses mac for everything and in December they have a sale of all their used equipment. We are going to go and get our girls one. My hubby has a MACBOOK and he loves it too.

I haven't weighed in in a while but got on the scale today and was at 142. So put me down for however much that is. I don't think I made the challenge goal.

Here is a picture of my tat...

Lap, I am watching the weather in Florida constantly. I have two band buddies, Tally in Tallahassee and Christiana in Tampa who are getting their surgery done by Dr. K the same day as me. Am sure hoping they make it out ok. And, i think your idea of a November get together would be great! Can we come up and jump on the bed? lol...

Deb, how is Tucker doing today? Hope he does better over the weekend. What you said sure is right, men just do NOT get it at all. That is why I"m not telling my ex.

Marcy, boy aren't we all tired of hearing that same song and dance from out docs. Like we need to hear it over and over! Feel better soon.

Munch, how scary. That class sounded like a fun idea, sorry you did not feel well.

Mini, thanks for the support. You're right, I'm sure she will be delighted when I'm the one to suggest going skiing or on a hike, etc.

Bahot, happy birthday!:) I'm glad you got some fun goodies. Cute butterfly.

I got my post-op meds today. Tomorrow am going to get a few more things for my last couple days of low carb, and also Jello, etc. for the clears phase. Denver seems so quiet now without the DNC hoopla. Have a great holiday weekend everyone. If you want to catch a movie, my daughter and I saw "Barcelona" today, that was great, a typical Woody Allen film!

Shelbi- Thanks for the concern. I don't like taking meds (ok, yeah, I do, but only the ones that make you feel "good' if you know what I mean...not the ones that just kill pain, where's the fun in that?) so I've only taken one Naproxen since I saw the doc. Pain comes and goes and seems unrelated to any type of activity or time of day. I feel just fine standing or sitting, but on the stairs is a whole 'nother ball game! I managed to do go up some stairs today with NO PAIN (I figured I was doing God's work so maybe God was helping me out.). It's still all so baffling....

Thanks for all the concern.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THE TAT and jelous of the MAC. I am seriously thinking of having a Tiger Lily tat on my port site when my stomach is complete. Or a Magnolia ( I'm southern) but something in homage to the band.

Mommies you is hot! Wow. Way to go!! I'm happy for you and envious. MILF for sure.

Lap, I am watching the weather in Florida constantly. I have two band buddies, Tally in Tallahassee and Christiana in Tampa who are getting their surgery done by Dr. K the same day as me. !

We are watching the Weather Channel and I do not trust this storm. Hurricanes are like tornadoes. They swell and shrink and move with no true predictable track.

I live right on the Gulf of Mexico. I can take a Cat. 2 direct hit if it is at low tide and the feeder bands are not on the eastern side of the storm. It's after it passes that can be worse than the storm itself.

I do know Tally. Should drop her a LUCK note. I need to get to know Christiana as that is in my back door.

We could talk pain! But I get what you mean by some days no pain. What is that all about and if we knew we'd repeat the process to stay painfree.

Naproxen works on some of my pain but not all of it. I take a combo of Xtra strenght Tylenol, give it a chance to kick in, if it does do the job then I add my anti inflammatory drug. That usually does it with no sleepy effect. I take Tylenol PM at night. That puts me out.

Okay then, sounds fantastic. I am totally hip with hosting a gathering at the Westin or thereabouts in the area. The more I read about the hotel the more I like it. I love the best and you all can come up and lay on it to EXPERIENCE the HEAVENLY WESTIN BED. Amazing!

Thanks everyone for the Birthday wished.

Lap, I am watching the news as well, and wishing you good vibes... Let us know if there is anything we can do.

I was pretty scared abt getting my tattoo, my sis went with me and had to hold my hand through most of it. I was better when I sat p and watched him do it. But I love it and it has so much meaning to me that it made it all worth it. I never thought abt putting one at my port site that is a cool idea, I might have to borrow that Lap.

Hey All.....quick update from me...

I hiked my first 14er (Mountain higher than 14,000 ft) yesterday. It was supposed to be one of the easier 14ers...but it's the craziest, hardest thing I've ever done. THere is no air up there. I was amazed at how well I was able to climb to the top...the guy and girl I was hiking with were having a very hard time. I didn't have any problems until I got to the top and was sitting on the summit for a few minutes. Started to feel really dizzy....so we headed back down and I was crazy dizzy and shakey all the way down and for several hours afterwards. So I basically think I just got altitude sickness. I am so proud of myself for completing the hike and I am excited to do another one. I thought I would be crazy sore today but I'm just a little sore in the calves...I guess all of the hiking I did this summer paid off and was good conditioning. I'll post some of the pics from the hike soon.

Denise...happy, happy birthday girl! You look fantabulous! Missed you at RR.

Lap...I am heading to Clearwater Beach (near Tampa) on Wednesday for business. Do you know if the hurricane is supposed to be in at area? I'm worried about you and praying for everyone's safety.

Adork...What agency to do you work for? My sister lives in PHX and works for Maricopa County SO. I go down there periodically to visit her. Maybe next time, you and I can meet up?

Dee, Mal, Bookholder and Denver....It was great to meet up with you at RR. Denver...I am very excited for you and will be here to support you on your new journey.

There were a bunch of other posts that I was going to reply to but I am running out of time. I hope everyone is well.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
