Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Really, it was kind of an interesting experience... the first needle went in nicely... lol I should have known it was a fluke... it was defective and was leaking saline... so had to do it again... second time, not so nice... but it's all done now and hopefully I'll be stepping up on my weight loss, although I've been pretty pleased thus far....

Anyhow, I got 2.6 cc's this first time... (of course, I don't know how much my large inamed AP band holds... but DR. K said rather too loose in the beginning than too tight... so, we shall see... when he had .2cc's more in it, my Water went down hard and I salivated a lot... so 2.6 seems right...

Time will tell... but I must say, it was not a big deal... uncomfortable for a few seconds...but a piece of cake (wish I had some)....

Oh yeah, I like the new gal Natalie... heck, I like them all actually...

Tina

Wow! So much news on this thread -- it's hard to keep up with everyone.

First of all, thanks for the soft food tips my friends!

Second of all, Dynamo, I'm sending positive vibes to you on this audit day. Go get 'em , girl!

Mal -- AKA Super Mom -- Thanks for your helpful info. I working on slowing down, but geeze -- after gulping for 46 years, I'm having a time. I've scheduled my first fill for Oct 29 and I hope that will help.

Girlygurl -- how are you doing?

Littleroo -- congratulations on your daughter! So cool!!!!

Biggest Loser -- Down 30 pounds!! Way to go!:clap2:

Sheesa -- how are you feeling? I hope you're spared the morning sickness. (Where's the darn vomiting smiley when you need him?)

Tina -- congrats on your first fill! I like Natalie, too --I met her when I was in CO and she called me last week to check in. What a sweetie! Did you see her "before" pictures? She's one of Dr. K's first bands and has lost 90+ pounds, I think.

Woofay -- whoever hires you will be very fortunate to get you!! The studio sounds like much, much fun, but I bet you've got a real gift with the geriatric population and they need good professionals like you. I agree with Want2B -- it's getting the kids in order while you're working that's the most stressful. No doubt. I'm working my first full time job in 16 years, my kids 10 and 16 and I still struggle.

Marcy --I love to hear about your life in Nome. Can you see the Northern Lights? It's all so "Northern Exposure" kind of cool.

Lap Dancer -- How are you? I need some OA thoughts, please. No pressure, though. Hope you are well!

Drews -- My hubby has loved derby women since the '70s. So, for his benefit, are you a jammer or a blocker? (I think those are the terms he used.)

Skyeblu -- I'm going to the fill doc in Denver, NC (Denver, NC..Denver, CO -- coincidence? I think not) -- the Dr. uses the hospital's fluroscopy. The follow up doc that I had selected prior to surgery (at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem) insisted that I have an EGD done to check band placement prior to starting my aftercare to the tune of about $3k, even after I told him that I have no lap band-related coverage. Geeze! He wanted to check on the band's placement, even after Dr. K sent his operative notes and sent him a letter of referral! I told him for that $ I can travel back to CO to my surgeon many times. Geeze again! :) So, I've changed my plans and I'm going to the NC fill center doc. Are you still traveling to GA for fills?

If I've overlooked anyone, please know that I'm thinking of you all and wishing you safe, peaceful journeys this week.

Karen

Good morning, Girls!

Mal~what day is everyone getting together?

Biggest looser~ Good job! Isn't it neat to see it work?

Littleroo~:):biggrin1: Congrats on your new daughter. I'll pray for you that it all goes through.

Taynuh~Let us know how your fill goes for you. I didn't know you had a different kind of band. Did he explain to you what this means to you? I've heard they are better now, but not sure in what way.

Dynamo~ Today is your day...Here's to the IRS! :censored:

Want2bmeagain~Thanks...I am/was crazy nervous. I don't have a clue how I am going to juggle things yet. My little guys are 7 and 4.

The hard part is my hubby's hours. They are everywhere. No regular days off, opens at 5am sometimes, gets home at night at 2am sometimes. Plus I have things on the calendar already...chris has to go to Tenn from 14-17 this month, we have a wedding in phx the 29-6 the end of this month. plus I don't ever want to work Christmas or Thanksgiving, and this is not usually an option in health care. (people have to eat and be taken care of regardless of the day) I did it for years but when I had my babies, it was all a different story.

But....the good news is, the place I went to yesterday doesn't care. They said they could accomodate everything. They are very flexible. And I managed to find one of the most beautiful retirement villages I have ever seen. (I've seen a few!)

And guess, what, I have a job! Woo hoo! We are still going through all the paper work, she's calling my references today, then I sign some more stuff and then the drug test and background check. Guess I'll be working by Monday...(kinda bittersweet)

All of your well wishes worked. The photo job was awesome and they were going to hire me... but its a traveling job. Which, 8 years ago before kids would have been my dream job. They have paid training and everything. But can't be gone like that every week. So...

Have a great day all!

She is a family practice doctor in Lawrence. She used to own part of Dr. Atkins after he passed away. I have a friend who used to work at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Labor and Delivery. I've heard she is mean to nurses and vulgar.

She co-wrote a book on Atkins

Shelbicallie~ I'm glad you chose to not go to that Doc. He really wanted a lot of money just for fills. These docs are so full of themselves. They are angry at people like us who opt for a reasonable price for the placement. Sooner or later they will get over themselves. (maybe) Until they do, thank goodness we have the right to choose. And your right, you could have come here quite a few times for that price. Your fills are free with Dr. K for the first three months. Even if it was 1k each trip, that would be the first three months....hum. Wonder what those docs are thinking....

Also, thanks for all the well wishes. I hope I do get organized....(heehee. this should be interesting! :))

Woofay,

I don't think so... seems to be treating it like any other kind of band... I think the only difference is that the band has a continuous inner lining that is filled versus the others which had a gap.... so it fills a little better...

The fill is good. I am certainly eating way less. I had just a few bites of last night's ham steak, couple bites of sweet potato and one bite of mixed veggies... This morning... I made sure I added Protein Powder to my grits, egg, bacon and cheese concoction... still I only got half of it down... and I had reduced the amounts to begin with...

I am drinking Water when I can ... before and after meals. I do drink a V-8 as a snack to get more veggies in...

Dynamo~How did the meeting go witht the IRS?? Are they done or will they need to come back??? I hope they made it short and sweet for you! I tried to back out of my third quarter estmated tax payment, but my Tax Accountant suggested that I send it in...darn it, I could have really used the $$$. Oh well, what can ya' do?

SO, what date did we decide on for our next gathering, I don't have it on my calender??? Dr. K said that he had a patient that managed one of the RR and he told him about our group, he said that he could probably give us a discount or something???, the patient left but didn't leave any info for us...???it was a nice thought.

Shelbie~thanks for the kind words..."Super Mom"...that is soo funny. I think all of us Mom's are SUPER!

I decided on my Halloween costume...my hubby is going to be Dog the bounty hunter and I am gonna be Beth, his wife. Get some long blonde wigs (mullets and big hair), throw out some "shaka's" and "brahs" and "sistahs", wear all black, carry maise and hand cuffs...what do ya' think??? I know I look nothing like Beth, (I'll deff have to stuff). I think it would be hysterical if we could pull it off!

anyone else dressing for Halloween? I know Lap is...what are you gonna be...

Hi all - the audit was awful but I appreciated all the kind, warm thoughts you guys sent me. The auditor didn't want to get to any conclusions, and wanted to disallow everything. She even said that my doctor's letter that prescribed exercise at a health club, wasn't a prescription. So we are going to get her results in the next couple of days and go to appeals. It can't be worse that this b----! I was glad that I got angry and shared my frustration with her. I used to bury my emotions to deal with stressful situations, this was frustrating and crazy-making but I survived with a feeling of empowerment. Some of these IRS people have too much power with very little knowledge. My accountant was amazed at her strange mood swings and wrong information.

I don't know about Red Robin. Will next Tuesday, October 9th work for people?

There will be at least 2 of us coming in for our first fills on Oct. 15th, and nicnaknut will be in Denver for her surgery on Tue. the 16th....What time do you all usually meet?

Is that a possibility for the RR night, or too far out?

just a thought!

:)

Gawd, Dynamo...I am so sorry about your experience...makes me sick to my stomach...what, technically, is next in the process?? Sh*t (excuse my french :omg:), what is going to happen if we get audited for Schedule A itemized medical lap band expenses?? That ought to be fun...on top of being self employed for some of us!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
