Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

A good way of being able to indulge occasionally is to be active. Ride a bike, take a walk, swim a lap -- introducing regular activity daily will help you be able to eat something yummy once in awhile.

I just checked my 2 hour pp after Breakfast - it was 91. I check mine once a day, just so that I don't miss something -- that and I am a nerdazoid!

Yep, I need to get active. I know that will help a lot! Why, oh why, do I have such a hard time sticking with exercise??? I'm not dumb, and I've had the self-discipline to accomplish quite a bit! But not this!!!!

91 is fab fab fab. Good for you!!!

Boy do I know this Mini! For me, I do great until I miss a day! One stinking day and it's like pulling a huge molar to make me return! I worked 4 and I wanted to sleep longer yesterday morning, so I didn't ride my bike (it was supposed to be an aerobic day), so here I am fighting with my self to get to the pool and swim.

I think of those people who do it as second nature. I long to be one of them! I wonder if it's just me and my personality - or is it in my genes? What kind of people work out without even thinking? Are they superhuman?

I think working 4 12's should count as exercise. Good heavens.

I know what you mean about those exercise people though. What's up with that? I don't get it.

YAY for moving tickers!!!!

I have one week left of this Last Supper Syndrome, and then I start my self-imposed 30-day pre-op diet. Not only am I going low-carb, but I'm quitting sodas and beer! Sheesh, I deserve a medal for this. :tt2:

Jaime - You know...once my husband and I were going to start a diet together (Nutrisystem, I think) and we totally had last supper syndrome...we ate B&J every night until our first box arrived...needless to say we eat had 10 lbs. MORE to lose by the time the box got to us! Haha! Just be careful...you don't have to over-indulge. SOME things you still will be able to eat (heck, I can still drink soda and I'm pretty tight - now, most people can't, so I take it as a blessing:cool2:) MANY of the things I can't eat I don't WANT to eat anymore so it's not a biggie...so just relax and know that if you can get through this pre-op, you'll be TOTALLY successful in bandland! That really is the first test of the band...right before you get it! We're here/hear for you!:cool2:

ColoCrazy - it has only been your presence here that has brought out the negative in anyone...I'm sorry that you haven't felt the support here that others have. I hope you have another group so that you may be as successful as we are here. I'm one of the *small* handful of folks that was at the beginning of this thread so I can say that this really IS a great group of supportive people. We ALL have to find where we're comfortable and it is obvious that you aren't comfortable here.

Volleyball - well, that team I'm on is...well...CRAZY! :w00t:We don't get along and we've got a few ball-hogs on the team. Anyone ever watch that movie "Church Ball"? The premise behind it is the Mormons (and especially the missionaries) play basketball - and they're out for blood...totally dominant and crazy. It's a parody, but TOTALLY true (I'm Mormon and can talk about it with some sort of authority.) Anyway, we've got the missionaries on our team and one of them is Samoan and he's playing his own version of church ball....I called him on it last night while we were having dinner and I explained that I was no longer going to get bulldozed into...I was going to start doing some bulldozing...heck, I need to have fun, eh?

Now...scroll down if you can't handle it...the recipe for B&J pumpkin Ice Cream...straight from their cookbook:

2 larg eggs

3/4 cup sugar

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1 cup milk

(this is the base...it is important to whisk the eggs, then add the sugar a little at a time)

1 cup unsweetened canned pumpkin

1 tsp ground nutmeg

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1. prepare the base. Pourt ~ 1 cup of base into another bowl, add the pumpkin and spices, stir until blended. Add the remaining cup of base.

2. transfer to an ice cream maker and mix away

Makes "generous" 1 quart.

Marcy! I wondered if you were Mormon when you said that the missionaries cut some of your firewood. My daughter is Mormon (converted when we lived in Oregon!) and my husband is a lapsed Mormon. He played Church Ball for years and would come home all battered and bloody. I would go watch sometimes and couldn't BELIEVE how competitive everybody got. It was hilarious. Good for you for bulldozing back.

Oh my. That sounds sooooo good. The ice cream, not the gas.

Oh the gas wasn't good at all. But I kept hoping my husband would get tired of it and just move to the spare bedroom. There's nothing better than getting our King bed to myself with our 3 cats snuggling close! They don't mind the smell of my ice cream induced gas.

Well, you may get your wish after you're banded! I have never had so much gas in my life. It's embarrassing! I know what you mean about having the bed to yourself . . . .whenever DH is out of town, I sleep diagonally on the bed, just cuz I can!

Hey! I am Mormon too! I was laughing when I read about your church ball experience. i played when I was in the Young Womens group and it was BRUTAL!! My brother in Law tore his achilles(sp?) tendon playing church basketball, though that was kind of a mixed blessing because his unit got deployed to Iraq the next month, so he stayed in the states and got office work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
