Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

LOL I drink soda on a daily basis, mostly at work. That's where my soda problem lies. At night, if there's beer in the house I'll drink it. Luckily I'm not drinking my beer at work - that would be a no no, haha. I am confident I can kick the two, it might just take a few weeks. I'll be so happy to kick the habits. I'm not worried about doing low-carb for a month though. I've lost weight on Atkins plenty of times. I'm ready for the scale to start moving the other direction!!!!

As for that pesky pumpkin cheesecake ice cream, I have been to two grocery stores with no luck. But I did notice yesterday that one of my local stores has B&J on sale for 3/$10.

Well, that is a bummer that you can't find our ice cream. But there are lots of other flavors to partake in at 3/$10!

Wow! 3 for $10.00? I'd have a hard time passing up that sale!

I think it was bahotmamma who loved the "Willie Nelson Peach Cobbler" flavor of B&J. I tried it and it was absolutely yummy!!!

Oooohhh...that one is good!!! banana split is my other fave!! Yummy! Okay, we have to stop talking about this!

oooh oooh i forgot to tell you all. i tried this Greek Yogurt that i've read about on this website, mainly over in the nutrition forums. it's high Protein and low calorie. well...it's definitely low taste, if you know what i mean. even the honey flavor was kinda bland in comparison to other yogurts i've had. but its about 6oz in a cup, 110cals and 15g of protein - which is a good thing when you're banded, because you need as much protein as you can get. anyone have any opinions about Greek Yogurt? brand name is Oikos.

i'm off to the grocery store. catch you chickies later!!!

I don't think I have ever seen any of that yogurt at my local store. Which is odd because we have a large Greek population here...

Enjoy your B&J binge chickie!!!

I have to admit, I also found that particular greek yogurt, rather tasteless. I finally added some fruit in it with granola and was able to finish it, but it upped the calories greatly! The granola was the yummy nutty stuff that I make homemade!

Hi Jmegirl!

I've seen and tried this yogurt as well. The plain is definitely not the tastiest. They do have it in vanilla but it's a little harder to find so keep your eye out for it. We have Fresh N Easy stores here that carry several flavors of that brand. Also, if you only have the plain then I highly recommend stirring in a spoonful of Smuckers Simply fruit which has no sugar in it and it tastes great! The Simply Fruit can also be used in smoothies or your cream of wheat or other Breakfast Cereal and I think it's around 20 calories for a spoonful. It might be a little more but not much.

Cassy! That's a great idea! I've never thought of adding the Simply Fruit to my yogurt or oatmeal! Thanks for that great idea!

Do you know what I have been loving? The Low Fat Laughing Cow cheese - herb and garlic -- 35 calories, 2 gms fat, 1 gm carb, 2.5 gms of Protein. It's really good on some really hearty whole grain crackers!

Have you laughed today?

Hot tubs are bacteria ponds. YUCKY. Stay out for sure for AT LEAST 4 weeks. Dr K told me one month for swimming and said hot tubs were a big no no.

Adork, Next time you visit Denver, come on over! We'll sit in the hot tub and have some vino. I keep mine sparkling clean, no bacteria in here, honest. But I did listen to you veterans and did not go in. My fill is this week, so I'll ask Dr. K's permission then.

Hey, guys! Lots of activity in two days!!

Adork: great pix! How old are you....12???? U don't look old enough to be married...sheesh....

Mal, I will pm my address to you.

Took folks to casino yesterday. Not a financially solvent move, but good bonding with the family.

I was sooooo tired from trip to Denver on Tues. that I slept most of Wed. and then got busy on stuff on Thurs. I got up at 3am to get folks to casino by 5:30, but had a sore throat. On plane ride home, people were hacking and snorting everywhere! I am sure that and the tiredness I was (am ) feeling contributed to getting a cold. Oh, well, first time sick this year. Took a 3 hour nap today am so worn.

Weight challenge: glad to say since first fill I am down 3 pounds!

Tucker is doing AMAZINGLY well now. Eating without coaxing and eating lots! Coat is back to a beautiful brown shine and he is even rollin' on his back and kickin' out his legs! We are on the upswing here!

Deb, I am inspired by your progress! I can't wait to have a fill and start losing weight already. How did you do at the casino?

Colorado-

I think we have made it pretty clear that we don't care about your opinion...and obviously what you said did "offend" us or we would not be so antagonistic to you. Actually, it is probably the fact that until now, you have never replied to any of our posts or come back to defend yourself that has made us suspicious.

And FYI, any surgeon that knows his ass from a hole in the ground would have prescribed you something for nausea before you even left the hospital...DUH. That is a normal standard of care for a post op patient. Post op patients are usually nauseous from the anesthesia! So don't act like is was some huge deal that your surgeon was nice enough to call in something for you for nausea the night of your surgery because if he had covered his bases to begin with you wouldn't have even needed to call him.

And I talk to doctors all night while I am working in the ICU...I really don't need to call yours to "verify" that he can be reached 24/7. Why you think I would even care enough to do that is beyond me.

Best of luck to you.... Oh, and yes, I am not even a little bitchy this week- I am A LOT bitchy. Hasn't anyone ever told you that ICU nurses are a bunch of bitchy divas sweetie??

Munchkin, you GO GIRL! We Love ya!

Prty, you are so right - I love that cheese, and such a calorie bargain, too. I used to eat it on celery, but have been scared to try that since getting the band.

Hope everybody had a good weekend. I visited my daughter at college today. She's doing great, and always fun to spend time with her.

Does anyone know if Dr. K will be able to do my surgery if I have TOM?

TOM showed up yesterday, which means I'll have him in another 4 weeks as well ~ which will be two days before my surgery.:biggrin:

TOM doesn't matter in surgery... I had mine too.

Also... my mom is going with Dr. K! I'm so excited, she is supposed to call Natalie today. When I checked last week, they were booking in November.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
