Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi there, yes I did check with Atkinson and he was close to $20K... I said no way because I am cash pay so there's no way I want to be on the hook for that much debt plus interest!

Really? Wow! I was just curious b/c I know he is an excellent Dr. (He performed RNY on my mom) When I checked on pricing it was around $15,000 and that was only a few months ago. So I thought maybe with travel expenses it may not be much different and you would have a Dr. close by.

How about Princess? the artist formerly known as Munchkin?

Puff Mama, Heavy DD and Princess!!!

I love that, the artist formerly known as Munchkin!! Waa haa haa!! We tease my oldest lab about that...we call him "The Dog In Black, formerly the dog known as Bailey". He just looks at us like we are in insane, which we clearly are. Smart dog!

Hey, for all you dog lovers out there, I saw an article on MSN last night about a service dog trained to call 911 when his owner has seizures. So far he has dialed 911 3 times when his owner was seizing. He barks when the 911 dispatchers pick up. Is that cool or what?

Brandy-my port hurts all the time. I always ask my fill doc when it will quit hurting and he says it may take up to a year. I think with mine it is just not in the best location for me-it happens to be exactly where I lean up against the bed rails at work, so every time I do that, it hurts all over again. Could it be something like that?

That's so funny what you say to Bailey. We say weird stuff to our pets too. Our new scruffy faced beasty, Gracie, has a song we sing to her: "She's got Wilford Brimley eyebrows".

Keeley Anna talks all the time and tells us how smart she is and how loyal and how she is the bestest animal in the house. Of course, we have to translate for her, but she is quite clear.

Our biggest cat, Fatso, also has a song: "Fatso, Fatso man. He wants to be a big fat man".

Etc. etc.

Yes, the dog dialing 911 rocks. Dogs are so amazing. People who don't have dogs just don't know what they're missing. Like dog hair all over the bed, doggie kibble on the kitchen floor, stinky dog farts in the night . . . .

Brandy, I hope your band is right where it should be. Good luck! Good luck to your DH too.

Munch, I'm sorry to hear your port hurts all the time. Mine hurts a lot now too, but I figured I"m just bruised from the surgery.

I love the term "shit elves", will have to keep that one in mind for work!

Ok, I feel slightly better that I am not the only one in the world that carries on conversations with my dogs and translates for them. Of course, maybe we should not tell people about this because it is making us look a bit wacky. Oh, what the heck, everyone knows we are wacky anyway!!!:tt2:

Yes, we were laughing all night about the "shit elves". Of course, when I talked to the charge nurse in SICU across the river later that night, and told her the story, she jokingly told me "Now Heather, we have already talked to you several times about shitting in the patients beds!" Ha ha, very funny!!!

No, we're "special". That's different!

One year DH gave me a card signed by all the animals with comments from each one of them. It was so cute.

Each of my pets have different voices. One of the cats (Scooter Bug) has a speech impediment. Fatso uses really bad grammar. Bitten Marie is very soft-spoken but rather haughty. Sophie Bean is quite enthused. Keeley Anna is earnest. Gracie May talks really fast and kind of has ADD.

Yeah, okay. I'm really freakin' weird.

And before any of you get too scared . . . I only tell my students this stuff AFTER class has been in session for a few weeks. I don't want them to think I'm TOO weird. Geez.

I usually tell them about my pets shortly after I tell them how I once broke multiple bones shooting free throws in my driveway with my kids. And that I brushed my teeth with Nair one time.

Hmmm . . . . good thing people in administration don't visit my classes!!

That's hilarious! When I am changing a baby's diaper and they have poo in there, I always say, "Hey, who put poo in your diaper?" Then I'll say to my NNP, "Did you put poo in this diaper?" So one day, she answered back, "you did!" I replied, "hey, I have a hard enough time keeping poo out of my diaper!"

I love it! You guys sound like my daughter and me! WE can't have real pets, so we have pretend ones! We have a pretend "Raptor" named "Raptee" he's really fat and wants to get a Lap Band, but he doesn't have the money, so he's working extra hours at the cafeteria at Parker Adventist Hospital. We also have all of these stuffed baby cows that we bought before I had my surgery. Actually, my daughter bought me one for when I was having surgery the first time, then the surgery fell through and she bought me another one. Then we were there on Christmas Eve and saw two more in the 99 cent basket, they were discounted because they have anomalies. Marie, she's the brilliant one, she can even read. She has a hoof missing. It's very sad. And then there is Cowie, he has an asymetrical head. Millie is the really mean one. She's really chubby. And then Charlie, he's just a sweetie, but usually ends up crying a lot because Millie is so mean. Here is a picture of them! We also have pumpkin, the cat and Piggy. We're all pretty bizzare, aren't we?

BTW, Jeff sent me those flowers when I had my surgery. We sent him this picture to thank him!

I forgot to tell you, sometimes my daughter will pose them doing stuff, when I get home from work, I find them on my bed, Marie reading them a story or watching TV or doing something silly. I sometimes have them going up the stairs to her room or in her shower! It's fun!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
