Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Okay we are moving on past my head twister and adding a new more surreal celebration of our Halloween challenge...meet "Byron". Byron is one of five fish in my aquarium.

The photo is courtesy of the new setting I found on my camera. WOO HOO. It turns everything in the photo a lovely black and white but for the yellow and blues which fight for the most dominant color, the winner appears almost in neon. Sooo import the photo into Picasa and hit "saturate" and boooom you get BYRON in neon.

I need a class in Lapband 101:huh2: My question is when you have food get stuck....where does it get stuck:confused: The esphagus (sp?) is the same. So the food is going down the same way as before...right? Why does it feel like you swallowed a golf ball and then burp and throw up for 20 minutes. I'm confused. It seems more natural that the food would get stuck going between the new pouch into the old stomach, but doesn't it digest in the new stomach pouch first?

It seems to me that the only thing the fills are doing is making it harder to get things down instead of suppressing my appetite.

Help!

Adork - thank you for taking us through the last challenge.

Mini - Count me in for the Halloween challenge. I am 19 lbs from onederland so I am going to put myself down for that. I haven't lost that much per week ever not even since my band but I am committed to sticking with a plan.

Count me in also for B4L. I can only echo Lifesaver on the benefits of interval workouts. It is absolutely the way to go for your metabolism. Physical fitness and rehab people are doing all the follow up research on it and all have found it the way to go. I have practiced interval workouts for about 6 months while at the same time a friend has done the traditional workout for an hour on the stationary bike. She lost weight at first but now cannot get the weight to move. I believe it's because her body has acclimated to the speed and "sameness" of her workout and won't turn lose of any more weight. She doesn't believe I know what I'm talking about so I don't mention it any more. But I will definitely be emailing you, Lifesaver, with questions. The exercise system I've used is Breakthrough Momentum Fitness but the exercise principles are the same. It is the regular practice of it where I am falling off - I have to do it for it to work, right? It will be great to have an expert in it to lead the way - Thanks, Lifesaver.

Wow is this a boring long post! Love the Byron special effects Lap!

Hi, girls, just checking in late tonight as I just don't know what else to do. My big guy made it through the second surgery (no mass was found). We did a "little" celebratory dance; however, the dr. called a half hour later to say there was pneumonia in one lung. We are currently hitting $12K for this, but I can't say just : Okay, that is more than we want to spend.

Like I said before, I know others think this is crazy, but he is my boy.

Deb, I'm glad the surgery went well and I'm sure the pneumonia will clear up quickly. Again, you've come to the right place for people who understand devotion to pets. We all understand why you're doing what you're doing. He's your guy and you need to make him well.

Lifesaver, no wonder you are so buff! I didn't know you did bfl before. That program is not for sissies! Go girls! You and prty are going to be the fitness queens of the bandsters.

Deb, I'm glad your doggie is doing okay. You must have been so nervous during it all.

Lap, I love your fishy photo. How cool! I have an empty aquarium and have been thinking of setting it up again. Do you have saltwater or freshwater fish?

Green and Lifesaver, thanks for the tip on the designer whey. I will give that a try.

Well, my surgery is TOMORROW! I went to the support group meeting tonight at Dr. K's office, and it was great to meet more of his patients. I also finally got to meet Tally, who also is having her surgery tomorrow.

So, wish me luck!

Thanks Mini,

I will post tomorrow night if I can. I'm teaching a class as a guest lecturer tomorrow at 8 am, then have to be at the surgery center at 11:30. I could have rescheduled the class, but thought it would be a pleasant diversion. I can have Clear Liquids until 9:00 a.m.,, so that will be a help.

YIKES!

That's a good idea to teach the class. The morning before my surgery lasted FOREVER.

It's soooo exciting!!!

Mini - I *reluctantly* am puttin' myself down for the Halloween challenge. I suck at this so I'm putting myself down for a whopping 16 lbs. (that will put me at 199 - ONEDERLAND). Let's just see if I can do it! Now, I just have to put down the Pepsi and step away from the Hershey bar!!! AAAHHHHH!!!!!

Denver - You're in my thoughts and prayers. Things will be fine tomorrow (today for you) and you're going to be so successful!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
