Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi to all of Dr. K's pts! I was wondering what surgery center to have my banding done? Crown Point in Parker or Dry Creek in Englewood? I am currently scheduled for 10/1 in Parker but was hoping for Dry Creek b/c it is closer to home. Would anyone recommend one over the other? Thx!

I had mine at Crown Pointe and really really liked it, but I haven't been to Englewood so I can't really compare . . . .

I had a fill under floro and loved it. I could see the port and the band and they have you drink barium (yuck) so you can see the Fluid going through the band. No guessing with the Water test. My doc filled me till there was just a little getting through, which they can see so you know you are not too full. If it did not require a trip to mexico each time I would go back to have it done, again.

Thanks for the info! I'm sort of excited about it . . . I wasn't always sure with the water what I was feeling. And now my restriction is all gone . . .

I would like to do one under flouro just to see. Will Dr. K do it, if we pay?

I think someone posted about that awhile back and he said he would but it was expensive because it would have to be done at the hospital or something. The guy I'm going to has the equipment in his office.

Yes I remember the same thing! He does do them, but he charges because it has to be done elsewhere. Plus think of the trouble for him to have to meet the patient at another facility and then return to his office to continue seeing his patients.

I think it would be good to be able to see a fill that way! You could see if your band is working properly. And just kind of interesting!

I have to tell you Mini that your grandbaby boy is absolutely adorable! He's one of the sweetest babies I've ever seen!

Be careful with Shelbi, it sounds like she could just gobble him up!!!

Thank you to everyone who posted messages to me.

I appreciate you all! I love you all!

Having you all in my life on this journey has made it that much sweeter!

Thank you!

I guess, before I got banded, I thought my biggest battle would be learning to eat properly. I have now found that - that is the easy part compared to learning how to love myself! Nutrition has always been an interest of mine. I lost over 100lbs once doing a very healthy low fat, low calorie vegan diet. I knew what it takes to lose the weight, I also gained it back plus more! But I guess, in all my years (perhaps the reason I always gained it back) I never learned how to love myself, accept myself and see that I'm worthy.

That in itself has been my biggest challenge! It's tough for all of us - for whatever reason.

Hugs!!

Thanks!!! I know it's impossible for me to be objective, but I think he's really really cute. It was so fun to spend a few days with him. They'll be coming here for Christmas, so I'll get to see him again.

Yep, learning to love yourself is the toughest challenge we (or anyone, really) have to face. But I can tell you from personal experience - if you accept the unconditional love of another, it makes it easier to have unconditional love for yourself. While it's sad that we need others to validate our worth, it really does make a difference.

Hope that made sense.

I love, love, love babies! (And NOT with french fries and ketchup. Was it W.C. Fields who used to say that? Man, am I showing my age or what?)

Seriously, when I worked in the Newborn Nursery (not a NICU like you Dee; we shipped our sick ones out to folks like you!) I LOVED bathing the babies and swaddling them and putting their little hats on their sweet little heads. Good memories. I think working in the nursery was a big reason I had son #2!

That little wrist fold is SO precious! Seems like it's the last sign of "babyness" that they lose. I remember my babies had sweet little wrists until they were 3 or 4 years old. Ah, I miss my babies! They turn into stinky little boys too soon!!

Babies are pretty darned exquisite. I love their soft little heads and funny toes. But I must admit . . . when he started squawking I was VERY happy to give him back to mama. I'm too old for such things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
