Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Mini~in one week, you will be out of surgery and in recovery by now! Good job getting those pictures out of the way, you will love those pictures some day, being able to see your transformation. I took my before's in a baggy t-shirt and black stretch capris, not a good choice for comparisons.

JP~I'll try it again and make sure I click the save button. Maybe I'll change it to once a day??? Did I read that your DH is in the Army? My Dh WAS in the Army yeeeeeeears ago! We spent a lot of time in Dc, Maryland, Germany and he went to Korea for a year. My father was a MP in the Air Force, so I feel like the military has been a HUGe part of my life. Nice to meet a fellow Army wife!

Wow! I am behind in reading!

Brandy - I'm so glad your band is where it's supposed to be. Natalie is right you are the model patient for the band.

Dee - I am sorry you have had so much pain from your marriage/ex. Mini is right. You deserve so much better and this time I know you will wait until you have that before you take the plunge again.

Jilliepoo - my daughter has a Corgi/German Shepherd mix. Isn't that a vision that's hard to imagine the mating of those 2 breeds? She has a Corgi body, neck,& legs but is colored like a Shepherd with a Shepherd ears, face and tail. She is so weird looking that she is cute. She is a super dog and very smart.

Mini-I'm excited about your surgery. I lost 3 lbs on my pre-op and was only on it 1 week. But I'll take whatever I can get if it's going in the right direction.

Now to my weigh-in for last Saturday. I only lost 1/2 pound!! I am frustrated and think my problem is I need to exercise more often and longer. I don't have the TOM excuse because I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago. I really don't have any excuse so I need to get my rear in gear and get it moving more!

I'll get my phone number to Mini - thanks for being the keeper of the #'s.

I'm sorry if I've missed anyone. I have a hard time keeping up with all of you. I start teaching summer school Monday so I'll be even more behind after that.

You guys are the best!

Don't forget to get your head to toe measurements.

I measured everything... AND I do mean everything!

Oh, that's a good idea. Things shift around!

Sidann, one of my students has a dog that is 1/2 bassett hound and 1/2 black lab. Same sort of thing . . . lab head, tail coloring, bassett body. It was really funny looking. Dogs and cats are interesting genetically. With humans, many traits are a blend of traits from both parents, so a tall parent and a short parent might end up with a medium height child. In animals, however, they have specific genes for very specific physical characteristics, so you get EITHER mom's legs or dad's legs, etc. There are even genes that code for spots of different colored hair, so a cat might have a spot of hair on its shoulder that is exactly like a spot on its mom. Dogs (not sure with cats) have about 60 times more genes than humans. Weird, huh?

Well, that was your dorky science lesson for the day. Sorry.

So I had DH take official "before" pics this morning. I have steadfastly dodged cameras for several years now and, if forced to be in a picture, try to hide behind whatever I can find.

Well. No hiding today. I put on a sports bra and some leggings and did the full body stuff - front, side, and back. Gotta' tell ya', pals. It was not pretty. I cannot BELIEVE how big and round I am! I look like a Corgi!! Or a little, round Red Heeler! I look 8 months pregnant! I have small lower arms and legs and the rest of me is almost a perfect circle. I know! I look like whatever character that was in Charlie and the chocolate Factory who blew up!

So I'm sorta' blue about this but it also makes me so happy that I am having this surgery. Some day (when I have some "after" pics, I'll post my "befores" as well).

Mini-I think it was Violet that blew up in Willie Wonka. My niece loves Willie Wonka. There is a line in it that says "Shnozberries taste like shnozberries!" I have no idea why but she loves that line and calls me her Aunt Shnozberry now. Goofy little kid!

Oh no! Summer school? Bummer . . . I was on campus today and it was all I could do to be there for four hours. I have to be there all day tomorrow and I found it rather, um, depressing. And I love my job! I'm just really enjoying having some time off.

Good for you MINI!!! Don't be nervous...even though we all are. It will be the best decision of your life. Honestly, I don't know what I would do if something happens. Thanks for thinking of me!!

I am just starting the teenage years...my oldest is 14, good boy though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
