Thanks for all the one year hoorahs! I STILL have not taken a picture!!! I will try to do it today! I hoped that I would be down a lot more, but I SWEAR I must be the plataeu QUEEN!...and this is why....I couldn't even make it past day two on the PB diet! Last night I got home soooo late, didn't eat dinner, so when I got home, I was soooo hungry~I ate half an Italian hoagie and chips!! There went the PB diet!! I did well before that....but I am still a failure!

Your not a failure Mal!! No matter what, this is still hard! Easier? A tad because we have a tool, but the tool is not in our heads so that is why it is difficult.

I struggle every day on making the right food choices, I screw up ALOT!! I think for me losing has been the exercise, not so much eating.

Please don't call yourself a failure, this is a process, and we just "keep swimming" (FINDING NEMO!).

Dear Ms. Mal!

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!

:)

don't make me come over there and place you in the Naughty Chair!

You didn't totally mess up, you left the track for a meal. One meal! You can get back on track today or even tonight!

Don't give up!:sneaky:

AND remember you can drink your Protein Drinks if you're hungry between your meals... you shouldn't be hungry. But I totally understand the coming home late and being starved!

It makes sense! BECAUSE Brandy is right, you got the tool around your stomach not your brain!

Hang in there Lady!

Love,

dee~

It's okay, I know I am a failure!

I have become so stubborn with my eating. If I want it, I'll eat it...there is no will power, no discipline now...I have temporarily lost it, I'll get it back, but for now...GONE!

I purposely drank a P shake before I left for this lecture, I knew that I would be home late. I didn't expect my hubby and boys to eat out at a pizza place and bring left overs home (evil people:cursing:). when I got home the hoagie was the fastest thing to grab and eat, not to mention it was 10:00!! YIKES! AND, I also ate a cupcake yesterday, how could I say no to a super sweet 6 year olds birthday?? AND I also admit to an ice cream cone. There it is, all out! I am heading to the gym and I am going to work my butt off (or part of it, the part that I gained yesterday).

I will go to the naughty chair, heck, I might aswell duct tape it to my a**!!

Has anyone heard when the "brain" band is coming out? I would like to put my name on the waiting list..

Mal,

Could we test that Brain Band on your first?

Let's give Dr. K's office a call and see if he'll be

up to the task.

Think of all the people who will be in line! You go first

and I'll be second!

There are some things, I absolutely love... pizza is one of them! I'd marry a big double cheese pizza if I could -- but knowing me, I'd eat it and the marriage would be over!!

(remember when we were kids and we used to say that? If you love it so much, why don't you just marry it?)

Okay, me first for the BB...I already have a BB Brain!..LOL

I am not a big pizza fan, but they brought home an Italian hoagie AND pizza! I passed up the pizza and had half of the hoagie.

How about this...my neighbor (she is the sweetest lady EVER), she brought over one of those GINORMOUS buckets of ice cream the other day. I don't know where the real Mal is, but before, I could care less about sweets, but now....

...and me and my hubby STILL always say "why don't you just marry it?" We argue over who gets to marry Buster, I just love my Buster...and I WILL marry him (on Tuesday, I always say)

And Mal,

You cannot duct tape your arse to the Naughty Chair, BECAUSE I won't be able to sit on it when I'm naughty -- unless you want me to sit on your lap and break you!

I have a feeling we're going to need a huge Naughty Chair!

Remember the huge rocking chair that Ruth Buzzie (sp?) used to sit on when she was on the Carol Burnett Show pretending to be a little girl!

We need one of those! So all three of us Naughty Banditos can sit on it together!

But what kind of marriage would that be? It wouldn't last long and you'd be in big trouble for consuming your spouse!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
