Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Okay Everyone -

Lap is coming to town, which night gets us the most people to Red Robin - April 9 (Wed) or April 10 (Thursday)?????? She promises to spend time with us this visit. So let's post and figure this thing out. Dee, Woofay, Mal, Brandy, John, Bookender, put in your two cents!!!!

I am with you Lap, my stomach isn't telling when it's full any more. There is really a shift. I have a fill scheduled in a few weeks, and it is what I need. I have never felt full before my band. I was constantly in a state of hungry, would overeat to a point of sick to my stomach. It is wonderful that the band has helped me get in touch with something that most people think is normal. I agree that it might be a gene, I think it is emotional/behavioral too. Just having the feedback gives me some peace of mind, maybe like that stuff they give alcoholics so they will get really sick if they drink. I am waiting for the day, and I feel it is coming where I can say, you know food just isn't THAT important.

Anyway, have a great night.

Michelle

An anabuse for overeaters would be good! Maybe we should put our heads together and invent one!

I am voting for RR on the 9th. I'm working the 10th,11th and 12th that week. That's my vote and my 2 cents!

Well, tomorrow is my first fill! I'm getting really nervous about it. BUT excited too!

Thanks Michelle!

Good morning, All! I'm recovering from a snow day....I cleaned all day! I truly don't care which day we do RR. All I need is a good weather day! Please, please, Pleeeeeeeeeeeze bring good weather! Wednesday is just fine with me. Lap, are you really going to see us this trip?

Well, just when I was sure I needed a fill~~~~~~my band has been so tight for about 3 days. EEEEEEEK! My good ole friend PB has returned to visit me! RATS! It usually occurs like this for my TOM, but this isn't the case this time. Who knows? Fickle lil' band of mine! But I finally have lost another pound, so I'll take it!

Have a fabulous day, All! I gotta go feed my lil guys now! (go to work)

Hey Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while, but have been reading and getting caught up. I had a fill last Thursday, than was unable to eat or drink for 4 days. I had to go back in yesterday and have an unfill. Needless to say I lost 7.7 ponds in 4 days. I am now down to 180 a total of 32 pounds since this journey started. It is weird though, I have to remind myself that I have actually lost this weight. I look in the mirror and my clothes are hanging but I still think I am fat. I have gone through my closet but don't really want to buy new clothes because I know in a few weeks to a month they will no longer fit. That's a great thing, so what I do is keep the clothes that are a little baggy and pass the rest on to goodwill.

Well I hope everyone is well and I can't wait til the first day of SPRING.

I vote for the 9th as well.

Hmmm, I thought that was what the lap-band and PB's were... the anabuse for overeating. I know I'm not too keen on the ol' PB...

Darn...another reason I wish I lived closer. I would love to meet everyone.

Dee - good luck with the fill. I can't wait for mine either. I'm actually scheduled Apr. 14 with a doc here in Oklahoma. I've decided...if I don't like him....I'll just start flying into Denver to see Dr. K. We'll see how it goes.

Started eating a few "not so mushies". Yeah!!! I'm feeling great and noticing a difference in my clothes. I'm down 50 lbs....WOOHOOO!!! I'll have to post some pics as soon as I take some.

Hope everyone has a great "bandalishous" week!!!

Thanks Amieru!

I got my first fill this afternoon! He gave me 3.3mls. I had some clear Soup for dinner and everything went down okay.

My throat kind of feels like there is a lump there, but I am not having trouble drinking or eating clears.

I'll see how things go in the morning when I eat some softies.

Good News!

Dr. Kirshenbaum has no intention of retiring!

I talked to Natalie today and she said he received lots of really nice Birthday cards AND even though he is now 65 years old, he has NO intention of retiring!

Sigh! Big Sigh of Relief!

Hello Friends...

I'm coming!airplane.gif

Flying in April 09th in the morning. Will be in Dever by 10 am. Hubby is coming and wants to ski, I want to meet my pals out there! Let me know when and where and I'll be there with bells on and the camera and a big old smile. I need a hug from you all.

Mal, girl how are you doing. I hope feeling so much better, I had that bug seriously bad and it had me down for five weeks. Sending cyber CHICKEN SOUP>>>

Dynamo Mini thanks for making the reservations and planning our gathering.

I'm thinking it would be a fun thing for us to all bring something to the gathering. I was thinking bring ONE THING...a picture, a book, a DVD, anything that has helped you on your journey. Bring one thing or two, it would be a nice and fun activity ( is the educator in me coming out?)

What do you all think?

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
