im so swollen i can barely drink.i have lots of pressure and shoulder pain.pls some tel me when iwill feel better

Faint not friend. I had the shoulder pain which was so strange. My right shoulder was hurting in the arm pit and also on the top of it. I had that for quite some time, several weeks. I heard it was normal in some and just left it as that was something unusual to experience. I was sore and drank Tylenol pain liquid. Slept like a baby. Take ONE challenge at a time and work through it. Discomfort is normal, pain...eh, pulling your hair out pain is not normal.

Friends I am coming to Denver. My sweet spot fill is starting to losen; Five weeks of hacking and sick and then the root canal...who feels like eating anything rough? So feelin' really crazy and hubby suggested we make a journey to Denver. I'm completely down with that! April 10th is my appt. That's a Thursday. Getting another root canal on Monday and two fillings. Stuck to eating soft things.

Nerves going crazy crazy wild. My sister called me and I really need to do more headwork about that whole family thing. Ending this note with a post from an OA member in my group. Thought to share it with you all. HUGS. Patty

Hi again, I wanted to share an assignment my sponsor gave me today, in

response to my eating 1 1/2 - 2 breakfasts and my mind planning a binge

(the urge has passed thank God and my day is restarted). She asked me

what was on my mind when I started obsessing about the binge. So I

said, "well, there are all these donuts and goodies in the cafeteria and I

thought, I need one or two, but how could I get more, because I can't

hide and I'd have to go through the line so many times, and people

would see me keep coming back.....blah, blah, blah" You know, the whole

obsession, compulsion, crazy thinking that can pop up when least

expected. So the assignment she asked me to do was write a farewell letter to donuts, thanks but no thanks, they are no longer needed in my life.

(Ironically, donuts certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but in the

absence of other things, they would do!) Maybe this will help someone

else. I'm going to write my letter right now. Wishing you

all peace and abstinence, one moment at a time :)

Wow, what a great idea; Write a fairwell letter to ****. Some thing to ponder.

Wishing you all a healthy day.

a Farewell to donuts?

I've been missing straws. I am going to write a poem, "Farewell to Straws"

I had no idea, I'd miss those babies so much!

yes, no straws!

I cry daily at the thought of it!

today, I got some ice Water and just automatically

put my extra long, bendy straw in it!

then it hit me!

I was a very sad girl!

In the grand scheme of things...one straw? Gulping air is not a good thing and I love not having a windbag with me after every meal.

I quit using straws during my pre-op diet, just to get out of the habit. I like the idea of writing a goodbye letter to food, though. But which thing would I pick?

Ugh, I have a problem. My first fill is scheduled for 3/18. I already bought my plane ticket, made my hotel reservation, etc. I was going to use two sick days (leaving late on the 19th as Dr. K told me he would prefer that I stick around in town for awhile after the fill). I was actually sick this past Monday -- no way I could've schlepped into work -- and my sick days are tight already. I earn 8 sick hours and 10 leave hours a month and I used up all of my leave hours when I got banded.

I just found out that there's a big staff development day on the 18th. I have only been in this job for six months and I really need to be there; it would look so bad not to be. But I also know that if I have to reschedule my fill then who knows when I'll get in? I will be a little bit past four weeks at that point. I don't want to wait much past that for a fill.

I planned to fly back to Dr. K for my first fill at least. When I made the appointment I was hoping for a Monday or Friday since that would be easier than two days in the middle of the week, but there was nothing available. Does anyone think I have a chance of getting in anywhere close to the 18th if I call to reschedule?

Possibly...call now and let them know your plight, if they know your coming from out of town, they may be able to work with you a little more. On Thursdays, he does have the PA, if that is an option...

Non-Scale Victories

To shop in normal size clothing stores

Not constantly thinking about food

Not looking at my chubby face in the hairdresser cape

Not wanting to be lazy all the time

Not needing to sit in the “special” seat at special events

Feel fun and confident in my bathing suit

To be able to tie my shoes easily

Hopefully not spilling as much food/sauces on my front while eating

No worries when sitting in a movie theater

No worries when going on a airplane trip

Being able to find nylons/pantyhose that don’t roll down

Crossing my legs and not feeling awkward

Being able to buy a pair of thigh-high boots that actually close

Walking to the parking lot after working my 12 hr shift without feeling like I was dying from the pain in my feet.

Going to a conference and not fearing the chairs will have arms on them.

Buying one meal at a resturant and eating it for 3 days.

Not having to check my blood sugars 4 times a day and having my fastings less than 90 on a daily basis.

Hey Guys!

Natalie from Dr. K's office wrote me and asked if we could add to her list of NSV's. I added mine and if everyone could just copy and paste the list and add more or they could make a list of their own.

I think it's a great way to take note of all of our victories! Not just the ones on the scale.< /p>

Hey My Green Twin!

I am going to be in Dr. K's office on the 18th! I am so sorry to hear about your problems with scheduling and work!

Are you going to have to pay a penalty for changing your flight too?

That is such a bummer!

I hope things work out!

Not saying it wasn't great before, but you know... fun, exciting, varied... the coolness of having a "new" body and it having more... hmmmm... flexibility and energy!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
