Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm finally awake (for a minute) so I thought I would update you. ShelbiCallie, I am NOT that brave-I was a little scared before surgery. I heard an alarm going off on someone at one point, and it totally freaked me out. I thought "If that's someone coding, I'm out of here!!" But that was my only irrational thought. Otherwise, it went really well. They were soooo nice at the surgery center, really! They are a class act team of nurses! They took good care of me.

My surgery went well. I had a really hard time after I got my gallbladder out, with the gas pain and nausea, so imagine my surprise when I woke up and had NO gas pain whatsoever, NO nausea whatsoever, and the only incisional pain I have is my port incision, and that is only when I get up and out of bed. I have only taken my pain medicine once. I am mainly just catching up on my zzzz's because I have been really sleep deprived for the last few days.

The best part of my surgery was that Tied2BFit and her friend Marty came to pick me up and they are both awesome!! They brought me a pillow for the car ride home, and some delightfully yummy strawberry banana juice and Gatorade. They saw me into my hotel, and Marty even offered to let me stay with her if I come back for my fills. How nice is that of them?? Seriously, you don't meet complete strangers that are that nice and generous very often, so ladies, take a bow! And Dee, you didn't even tell me you had a new surgery date silly!! I'm so excited for you!!!!!:biggrin1:

Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that my flight doesn't get cancelled or delayed, because it's snowing quite a bit back home.

Well folks, I've rambled long enough. I need to go do my incentive spirometer and take a walk!:) Sleep tight everyone!

... that would be Guatemala! My baby boy, Tanner, and I got in Tuesday nite.. I must say, he is just the sweetest and cutest 9.5 month old ever... and his big sister (2.5 years) is great with him... very excited about him... only seems to get jealous at bed time. She's quite a momma's helper too! I could not be happier. He's just doing awesome no big transition trauma or anxiety issues that I can see. I think it was harder on his foster mom then him. :)

I did okay in Guatemala food-wise. Only threw up (PB sounds nicer, but lets be honest it's barfing!) once (chicken is sooo unpredictable for me...eggs too...hmmm, which came first?)... My scale says I stayed exactly the same... not surprising given my diet there... I ate a lot of the local cuisine... strangely, although I hate bananas (except banana bread, weird, huh?), I apparently love fried plantains! And I love Crema Chapina Soup (black bean soup...served with advocado, cheese and tortilla chips)....okay and I drank a lot of bubbly sodas... I'm hooked on Limenada con soda!!!! But, I think the dietary lapse (heck, staying the same is better than gaining I figure) was well worth the trip to get my son!

Seriously, he's a cutie patootie..with a mouth full of teeth too! He's sooooo alert and happy.... okay, I'm gonna stop gushing now! :)

Tina :whoo:

All of those teeth at 9 months -- sounds like he's ahead of the game. Doesn't early teether ususally mean early walker? Watch out! silly.gif Sleeps all night -- good little fella. I LOVE to watch a baby sleep -- so snuggly and peaceful and sweet. Enjoy!

Dee -- You. Are. The. Best. What you did for Munch is just awesome. And congratulations on your new surgery date!

Tay - Congratulations! So....did you name him something more English? Or are you keeping his Guatamalan name?

OK, update: I got my letter yesterday from Dr. K about the Lap-Band being a medical necessity. PLEASE make sure you call/write Marilyn for the same letter to include with your taxes. You can also deduct the travel expenses, room, meals, etc. for the trip to get the procedure. This is probably the easiest to understand paragraph in the tax code! Don't deprive yourself of a little deduction!

Marcy,

I had my surgery last year and I didn't even bother to get the letter of necessity......I just deducted it! :) Didn't have any problems though! Glad you got it....

Thanks all, he really is a joy and I feel so very lucky... both of my kiddos are real blessings! Today, my bundle of joy discovered the cat's food dish... with his 7 teeth, it was kinda hard (and dangerous) to get that piece of cat kibble outta his mouth, but I persisted!

I'll post pics soon... family is clamoring for them too, so they are a priority...

Marcy... Like my daughter, I got Tanner's referral when he was 12 days old and like Tessa, I got to name him before his birth was registered... so I am keeping his name... Also, I think Tanner James is pretty English/Anglo sounding...

Tessa's birth mom did name her Allison, so I kept that as a middle name... so she'd have that gift from her birth mom... Plus, it sounded nicer than Tessa Marie, which were the names I had originally chosen. Tanner's mom, unfortunately, wanted nothing to do with him...so I choose both names. Right now, we are calling him Tanner, but I suspect, he'll wind up as a "TJ"... his sister is Tessa-roo or "Roo"...

What a wonderful Christmas present!

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is having a great week. I am getting packed and will be leaving on Monday morning to begin the looooooong trip to Colorado. We will be stopping half-way through to get a hotel Monday night and then arriving on Tuesday early afternoon.

I have a question......I had a sleep study done 2 weeks ago and they told me I had moderate sleep apnea with a score of 20? but I am unable to get a CPAP machine to bring with me. Do you think it is important that I have the CPAP machine for after surgery? I have lived 38 years without one so far.

monaaz - I guess I would check with Dr. K. I am not an expert on sleep apnea, but know that lack of oxygen will slow down the healing process. Perhaps the office can lend you a machine for the night???

munchkin - how are you today? Usually the next day is more sore. Any gas pains?

Mal - Hannukah is low key - the kids are big. I light candles every night, with or without them. It really is a minor holiday as religious celebrations go, but fun. Hope all your holiday cheer makes your days bright.

Taynuh - I remember babies. Adopting two at once made everything more intense and wonderful. It is so thoughtful the way you are naming them with such effort to honor their past with their present. I know your children are in good hands.

Woofay - hope our weather is good for next Thursday. How are the Xmas preparations coming? Your kids are the perfect age for holiday craziness. Lots of fun too.

As usual,

Announcing RED ROBIN - THURSDAY, December 13th.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
