Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Drews~I hope things get better for ya', we will miss you if you don't make it tonight.

Marcy~Congrats on the new size!!! And I know what you mean about NOT wanting to leave food on the plate. We went out for dinner at my fave (On the Border) and we ordered sooo much food. Before the food even came to the table, I was thinking how bad I was going to feel not being able to finish it all. I put some food on a small plate and we took the rest home we I had it for lunch and dinner the next day. The head thing is sooo hard to deal with some times!!! We can do it!!!

Hi Everyone -

I hope I will personally be able to fill you in on the audit during our dinner at RR, but for those far away, the audit stunk! I wrote a letter of frustration and "itemized" the abusive statements that the auditor made to me. I feel so empowered. I have always been a "get along" type person, but damnit the gov't shouldn't hire such horrible people and then put them in a position of power. So I am glad I have taken a stand. enough said, whatever happens, it will be better than dealing with the crazy woman I met last Wednesday.

Marcy - congrats on the restriction. Don't be surprised if you start mourning your new restricted ability to pile it on. It wasn't a bed of roses for me. Accepting the realities and extent of my food addiction has been a major step in my process. I felt angry at first, bereft for a while, then determinedly pushed food for a while, now I seem to understand that the "magic" wasn't in the food, and it never was in the food. Part of the learning process. That doesn't mean I don't reach for Cookies or ice cream to sooth the beast under stress, but the food just doesn't really do it any more. Write about the process for you as it unfolds for you, I am interested.

Hope to see many of you there tonight. For sure Mal and I will be there!

Hugs all,

Michelle

Good Morning everyone! can't wait to see the photos from RR last night and from RR next week.

Marcy -- Down 2 sizes!

Dynamo -- On behalf of all the tax payers in the nation, THANK YOU for writing that letter to the IRS about their problem auditor. Sometimes it seems that a person can get in a federal position and stay way past their competency. :)

19 days till my first -- can't wait! The ice cream in the freezer is beginning to call my name around 10 or 11 each night. Must...stay..away...from....the....ice cream :hungry:

Happy Hump Day, peeps!

Shelbie~wishing you well with the evil ice cream battle! I lost to the Oreos.

tied2bfit~It was a pleasure meeting you last night. I hope we can keep in touch throughout your journey. Thanks for the perfume comp, it is Alfred Sung, I LOVE it, it's the only scent I wear. It's an old scent and hard to find. I ususally order from Perfumania, sometimes I can find it at Kohls or Marshall's.

Woofay~We missed you!!! The waiter took one group picture, I'll post it soon (I left my camera case in the car with the USB cable). Enjoy your first day at your new job, the hours sound great! I am going to try and make it to RR again on Monday, I have been soooo busy with something to do EVERYDAY, but I'm gonna try!!!

Hello everyone. I have been reading as many pages as I can of this huge thread. You're experiences with Dr. Kirshenbaum have convinced me to proceed with him for my surgery. I'm just getting the ball rolling but am excited to begin my journey. I am so grateful to have found this forum...I was proceeding with a local Dr. who was wonderful but so much more expensive. Yes, I will be traveling from WA but I've always enjoyed travel and my one trip to Denver was wonderful. Looking forward to all your advice and encouragement.

Sherry in Ferndale, WA

Hi Sherry

Welcome!

I live in Vancouver which is only a 30 – 40 minute drive from where you live. I also chose to fly to Denver as it was so much cheaper than the Dr’s I researched in Canada and Washington State. You will love Dr. K and his staff. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

Keep us posted and let us know when you get your surgery date. :whoo:

Well, I think he is great! You do need to pay cash up front - they don't like to deal with insurance companies because they are such a pain. You can submit your claims though. The cost is so little compared to the other docs in town. I went to seminars and interviewed docs and Kirshenbaum is only $9,995 total, including support groups, and nutrition help. He is kind and a very good surgeon. I had my surgery on August 20 and have lost 30 lbs. Things are going well.

Yes I live in southeast Denver (Southmoor Park area) and am very happy with my choice of Doctors. I did a lot of searching and attending seminars. I liked him the very best, and still do. He's really getting busy now and it's a little hard to get an appointment for a fill. I think I got my surgery appointment just in time because I really was able to get in pretty quickly. I had my surgery August 20 and have lost @ 30 lbs. Anyway, I've been going to the monthly support group meetings and they are so much fun, mainly because everyone gets so excited. It's great to hear other patients experiences with the band.

Thanks for answering my post.

Sincerely, Jenifer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
