Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Good morning, Mal, and good luck today! My thoughts are with you! You do sound like you have a great hubby! I'll be thinking of you and your mouth. ;) Let us know how it goes after. My fingers are crossed for you to continue with the 18th. I also hope they don't inflict more pain upon it. You know how it can get after they start messing with it!

Morning everyone!

Hi Anita!!! Hope all is well with you.

Michelle, keep on smiling!

Mal you are going to be the focus of my post as I have to run out the door soon. You hang in there. Remember that you will have antibiotics ANYWAY for post surgery so having that built up in your system will be great. I feel like this is all going to work out for you. Thinking of you and hoping you feel brighter and better.

Oh Mal - you've been through the wringer this past week. What a wonderful husband you have. I'd do the surgery if Dr. K says ok. But if you still have infection, I'd postpone it. I have had two other major surgeries where infection took me FOREVER to heal. You don't want to invite that into your life.

Anytime for tea ladies - let me know. Drews says Tuesday evening are the only time for her, I am more flexible, though as all of you, lots of stuff is planned. What about the first week of June? Time and Place???

Michelle

Okay, guys, this is confession time for me. As you all know, I have no restriction. I could probably scarf anything I wanted, as much as I wanted, right now, with no issues. The good news is my first fill is Monday afternoon. The really bad news is for the last two days I've been in "The Last Supper" mode. :cry At least before surgery I was still good cuz I knew that I had to shrink my liver. This time has been different. I don't have to shrink anything. I'm truly in last supper mode. We are having Mother's Day dinner tonight because my hubby works tomorrow night, and you should see what I have picked out. T-bones, corn on the cob, asperagas, baked tatoes, peel and eat shrimp...and my scale is really moving the wrong way. Like 4 lbs worth...:omg: :omg: :omg: :omg:

:help:

I wonder if anyone else was like this before their first fill. This is the time they call Bandster Hell, right? I know life is going to change more Monday afternoon then it ever has, even after surgery. I'm actually very ready for it. I like to watch the scale go down. (can't use the word "move" right now.)

Okay, I've said it. Feel a little better even though the guilt is huge. Let me know what you guys think.

Michelle~ I would love to get together for tea or coffee or whatever. Let me know when. I'll have my momma come watch the little guys for an evening.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so very much for all the support, you are all so amazing, I truly appreciate all the well wishes.

Anita~I TOTALLY believe in you! Keep up the great work, I can only imagine how dificult it is.

I went to the oral surgeon, he did end up extracting one of the culprits. It was not fun, but it's over. Now I need to call Dr. K and see if he will do the surgery. I am still on strong antibiotics and percocet for pain. I feel like my head is going to explode! I think the pain meds are making emotional, I just feel like crying all the time. Can't wait until I look foward to losing weight.

Thanks again I totally appreciate how everyone understands.

Anita - I haven't be able to "relate" to bandster hell, until today. I am ravenous. I haven't gone into last supper mode, but a little handful of ChexMix yesterday, nothing wrong, but lots of food today. I am gritting my teeth. What worries me is the family Mother's Day tomorrow. We are going for sushi, because I refused to cook. Fish is a good choice. My first fill is Thursday. Anyway, look yourself in the mirror and say ,"I can do this. I deserve a healthy life." We can do it you know.

Prepare yourself to have an organized food plan when you get home. Kind of like we did before we were banded. I was surprised what people said that you could eat anything after a fill. I guess I want to hear if from Dr. K.

What time is your fill on Monday? Maybe we can meet afterward if you have the time. PM me if you have an extra hour in town. I'd love to meet and chat. Remember, you can do this, and you deserve a healthy life.

Mal - OMG what drama. The teeth the band all at once. I hope Dr. K thinks it is ok to go ahead for surgery. You are so brave to forge onward. If he doesn't give the go ahead, it will be for health reasons. Your body may be on overload. But then, why not get all the pain over at once. For me the band hasn't been half as painful as other stuff. Best wishes!

I am hoping that Dr. K will go ahead with the band. Oral surgery and LB surgery a week apart, I can do it! I am not in much pain today, no pain meds yet! I didn't get my errands done yesterday so I am off to the stores (I know on Mother's Day), things need to be done. Not only do I have my LB coming up (God willing), my son is graduating May 26th (God willing), My niece is having her Confirmation...busy busy busy!! No time for ailments...LOL

Anita, I know you are going to do well!

Lap Dancer and Dynamomini, thanks again for being here! your posts are always so kind!

Off to the races!!!

Enjoy our beutiful day and Hppy Mother's Day to all!

Do any of you know when Dr. K is scheduling surgery for new patients? I am trying to get approved for insurance, but if I can't I think I will schedule with Dr. Kirshenbaum.

8675309,

I heard that he is going to be out of the country in June. Things have moved along quickly for me. You should call his office and talk with Marilynn, she is very nice and she will answer any questions you have. Let us know how your journey works out. Best wishes.

WORD:

Dr. K is doing last bits of work June 9th. After that he will be on a lovely trip for one month to Africa. Amazing. (Wish I was going with him as I love high end adventure and photography)

I'm going to get my first fill June 7th.

Kids I am soooo feeling the openess of my eating. Mind you I still eat about one fourth what I typically ate but double what I ate just after banding.

Can I tell you HOW MUCH I LOVE THE BAND? I still feel FULL. First time in years.

No regrets!

Good evening, all! Hi, Lap Dancer! Okay, I'm getting a little nervous about tomorrow. I don't know why. Tomorrow is like the finale of everything I've been doing for months. The "mature band". Hee hee!

:nervous

Okay, lets see if anyone knows the answer to this:

When you do have a PB from eating something too fast, wrong food, whatever...is it right away after you swallow it, a few minutes, 20 minutes? Is it very fast? If I am testing something now, I wait a little bit, but then I think, maybe it will make me sick in 20 minutes or so. Who knows the answer to this? Drewslou, Sunnysea? Let me know!

I'm a nervous nelly. (again)

Dynamo~ I'm sorry you are starting to feel hungry. You too Lap Dancer. You guys are doing really well though. I have to admit, I don't think I've done so well over the last 4 days or so. :think Angie, how are you doing with the hungry thing?

Well, gonna go...today is my "picture" day. I'm going to wear the same thing every 13th and take a pic in it. Lordy, I must love punishment!

Have a great night all!

Oh, ya...

Dynamo~ I can't linger in Denver tomorrow. Wish I could. I've got a sitter coming to be with my guys and gotta get back.

Mal~ you'll do fine with the oral stuff and the gut at the same time. Pain meds work for it all. Might as well hurt all at one time! I had a root canal done 3 days before my surgery too! Yes, I've had 2 root canals, a crown and surgery all within one month. What was I thinking??!!! Good luck with it all, Girly!! Keep us posted with that.

Woof.... you will know pretty much right away if your band doesn't like something. I get a stuck feeling then the golf ball feeling in my chest. If you eat something and are still fine in a few minutes I would say go for it! Just go easy with new foods and chew and eat slowly. So much of this band stuff is trial and error! There are some things I can't eat at certain times... like steak...but then last night I had steak AND a few bites of crab and it wnet down fine. I have also recently discovered if I sit at the table to eat I can get things down much easier.

If we get together the first week of June I am available ANY night except for Tuesday evening. Just let me know what works for you ladies! Getting together for dinner might be something to think about. Especially for you new bandsters. I know for me the first few times I ate out were nerve wracking because I thought everyone was watching me. If we go together you got noone around you but other bandsters!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
