Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Many people have found that they can return to work that quickly. I might have been able to do it but I would have been uncomfortable and unhappy about it, not because of pain, but because I felt like crap for at least 10 days after surgery. If you can arrange to have options, that would be best. If you can avoid committing 100% you might be glad later. If you are able to go back to work, great. But if not, you'd have a little flexibility.

Having said that I can also say that the odds are you would be OK on that Monday.

I had my surgery on a Friday and flew home on Sunday and went back to work on Monday. I was still a bit sore but it wasn't that big of a deal since I have a desk job too.

If I have the surgery on a Tuesday, more than likely would I be able to return to work the following Monday? My job is a sit down job. No lifting, not alot of walking.

Anyone?

Hi Lap Dancer, I got banded on Tuesday and I am planning on going back on Monday. By yesterday I felt well enough to get out. We even went a casino and walked around. Today, I had to do a lot of walking at the airport and Target...

I feel well enough to go back to work, but I really don't want to. I am still feeling really tired. I might wait a few more days just b/c. I work a desk job and I feel like I could go to work on Monday. I guess I will see how I will feel by Monday.

If anyone wants to know, I stayed @ the Embassy Denver-Aurora on Havana. It was less than 10 minutes from the office. The room came w/a small refrigerator and microwave. The location seemed to be really safe and there's a Target and some other stuff @ the exit.

Good to hear. Everyone there was very nice too. One thing I didn't really think about until after I had surgery was requesting a lower floor or a handicapped room. That might be helpful.

i am thrilled to hear that everyone recovered from the surgery so quickly. My problem is usually with the anesthesia, so they must be using good stuff. I got my date - April 16th. I'm scared but psyched!

Hi everybody can't wait to be banded, but now that i have mine scheduled I am starting to get nervous. Some of the questions I have been wondering about. How bad is the pain after the surgery? I have heard that there is alot of gas pain, can you take something for it? What kind of pain meds do you take I can't imagine having to swallow a pill after surgery? And finally what are the instructions that they give you the day before?

Can you tell that I am one of those people who worry way to much...

:help:

CHULA, no problem! You came to the right place to answer questions!

For the gas....there are gasX strips that will melt on your tonuge, I recommend getting some of those to chow on. Keep in mind you can take up to 4 strips at a time (more than what the package says). That helped me a lot!

As for the pain, the pain medicine Dr. K will prescribe will be in a liquid form so you won't have to worry about swallowing pills. My pain wasn't unbearable, so I only took the med at night to help me sleep b/c I was previously a stomach sleeper.

Instructions for the day before were just don't eat or drink after midnight (I think)...other than that, no big restrictions for things you could/couldn't do.

Any more questions, feel free to ask!! :) Thats what we're all here for.

I don't know how close you are talking about. Walking distance probably the best thing is shopping. But if you can drive for about 20 minutes the Denver Art Museum is really great. That's what we did the day before.

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading your comments and following your journey with Dr. K.

I am just starting to research Drs. I have been considering having the surgery for about a year and I think I am ready. I just heard about Dr. K. and am wondering why you all chose him. I am also looking at Dr. Ortiz.< /p>

How long does it usually take from your first phone call to your actual surgery date? I am very anxious to get it done.

Cheryl

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
