Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

A tip for those of you who may live in central Denver or toward the north side of town, Dr. Georgescu, a bariatric surgeon at North Suburban Medical Center will welcome any of Dr. K's patients who want to transfer care to him. His address is 9351 Grant Street, Suite 400, Thornton, and office phone is 303-452-0059.

Thank you. I live north and have been calling around....everyone is so expensive and charge major fees for the initial consult. I appreciate the intel....

Yes, Dr Weaver only charges $25 for fills, but you have to pay $125 for the initial consult. I am checking with Dr G to see what their initial consult fee will be. Dr Weaver is down way south at Sky Ridge, so it would be super convenient to have a fill doc up north where I am. Stay tuned....they are supposed to call me back today to let me know if there is a consult fee.

Dr Weaver also works out of Rose. Dr. Metz also agreed to see Dr. K's patients. A friend of mine is going to have a consult this week. He's with Parker. I plan to ask my insurance if there is a complication if they will pay for it. United Healthcare Centura now pays for the LapBand. They didn't when I got mine.

I personally don't think $125 is a lot for a consult. I've seen where Dr's charge $1000.00 if they didn't place your band because they need all kinds of tests to see where the placement is. For me, my main concern is how they do their fills. Some do them by, "patient driven" and others do them by "barium swallow" each and every time! So it's the doctor or midlevel provider who decides how much goes in the band. I do not like that! My other friend's doctor does all of her fills that way and she has already had 3 unfills since February! He wants his patients to lose really fast so that his stats appear better! I think he's just asking for trouble! I have never had even the slightest unfill or problem with my band and now I am almost 4 years out and almost to my final goal, I do not want to start now!

After calling around to other lap band practices $125 isn't that much at all. Most of them are at least several hundred dollars and definitely more than $25 for a fill, so Dr Weaver is a good option price wise. I am just hoping to find someone closer to where I live if possible. I meet Dr Weaver tomorrow so I will get a sense of if I can see him at Rose which is much closer to me. Like you, I am also concerned about how they do fills....so we shall see tomorrow. It was so nice to see you at Dr K's party. You look fab!

Come on, peeps...SOMEBODY has to want to get together at RR!!! It's not like Dr. K ever attended, this is OUR group! Are any of those above dates good?

Anyway, got the financial information for those of you interested in getting your fills from Dr. Georgescu:

initial consult/evaluation fee $75

fills $50

9351 Grant Street, Suite 400 (this is just north of North Suburban Medical Center, I-25 and Thornton Pkwy)

Thornton, CO 80229

303-452-0059

He does the fills himself.

Dee, I have seen him do fills numerous times, and I would say they are patient driven. He asks how they are feeling, if they are in the red/yellow/green zone, hungry between meals, etc., then fills and has them drink Water, just like Dr. K did, then adds or subtracts as needed. He does not to barium/fluoro unless there is a problem, and then those are done at the hospital. Any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks Snowgator!

I appreciate the information.

A friend of mine consulted with Dr Metz this week and found out that he was very nice. She said he wasn't punitive about her weight loss, (she is 4 yrs post banding and has lost 3/4 of her weight) he was encouraging and supportive. He said all of the ER docs at Parker are trained to do urgent unfills if a problem arises. I don't know how much the consult was.

Your doctor sounds great! I need to get in for a consult ASAP, just in case something happens. Dr. Weaver sounds good too! I think we have several great options.

Sorry Nora,

I haven't been watching the boards. I am up for RR any of those days. We usually go to MI for Thanksgiving , but not his year. Kaiser finally came through and I should be having my bypass early next year!!!! (In the 6 week class right now) The bad news is there is a 30% co-pay... so it is going to cost me 7-10K/. This really hurts, since the band was close to 10K.

Anyway... just let me know when tou (and anyone else) would like to get together and I will be there!!!!

julie

Julie,

Congrats, that is great news about your insurance finally coming through. You must be excited. I'm sorry about the co-pay, though. However, as I have often said about paying 10k for my band - it was about the same as buying a cheap car, but the best investment ever.

I"m still up for any of those dates - let's see if any of our buds respond here, otherwise we can bug them on facebook!

Have a great day.

p.s. I got to goal last week! ;)

Hello, nearly new here. Originally wanted Dr. K to do my surgery but never quite saved up the cash to move forward. Got a call today from Chae's office that insurance approved my lap-band request. Surgery set for November 28th. I really didn't expect this kind of mental reaction on my part. Suddenly I'm scared crapless. It's taken 2+ years to get here and now that I can see this is really going to happen, the fear of failure or the fear that I can't live without stuffing my fat face anymore is a reality. Anyone else have this kind of reaction?

Dan

Congrats on the surgery date. I can't speak for anyone else, but I had the same fears going in. I suspect this is normal. I really miss my band, I know you will love it... it really changed my life, I'm sure it will yours, too. Dr Chae is a good surgeon, he removed my band, so you are in good hands.

If we have a Red Robin meeting before your surgery (which is coming up soon... lucky you!) You are welcome to come join us. Sometimes it is easier to talk to people face to face aboout your fears and excitement. Check out snowgators earlier post and let us know if there is a date that suits you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
